campbell's been struck down, san jose is half alive. that pretty much leaves sunnyvale and mountain view.

Sunnyvale has no real downtown area at all (at least no "nice" one.) So you'd be stuck with Mountain View, unless you want to consider Palo Alto. I don't go to bars, so I can't help you with that. But Palo Alto does have a nicer selection of restaurants than Mountain View.

There are actually some pretty cool loft style places downtown SJ. If your territory is SC County all the way down to San Luis, then you will be driving quite a bit anyway, so you may as well live in a nice place.

Plus, if i guess correctly, you will likely be going to SF for anything resembling true nightlife anyway.

Nice! Palo Alto for the win?

I also probably spend too much money on concerts and bars to worry about "wasting" money on rent anyway, haha.

thanks gusmahler

what exactly do you plan to live in w/ $1k?
SJSU area is decent. Not really party central, but that end of Downtown is nice.

I go to schoole here

valid point. i am encouraged to live wherever the heck i want, SF even, as long as i'm happy. i just don't want to deal with the morning commute, if i want to make it to a 8am meeting in San Jose. Palo Alto might be a good compromise though...

this is great information, and what i was hoping for. thank you. sounds crazy though, with the large population of santa clara. i would have thought there would be enough demand to support clubs/restaurants/cool stuff, but i guess it's hard to compete with SF right up the road.

hmmm...where is that old nightclub thread...*TT*? melander? wanna start something up?

i don't mind a roommate. i saw some nice looking places near SJSU for about $1000, so that's where my number came from. i could definitly be way out of line though, maybe i need to think about spending more.

i don't want to move to california and then live in some place that sucks. that's for sure.

Might also want to look at Santana Row (http://www.santanarow.com/). That is an area of "upscale" shopping, dining, and night life that includes a set of apartments just above the shopping area. It seems pretty packed on weekend nights (there are several bars there).

If I had to live in SC County at the life stage you're in, I'd probably pick Palo Alto.

You do not want to drive from SF to San Jose every morning.

You should probably get a roommate.

Santa Clara the city is like South Korea, only with warmer weather and better nuclear weapons research 30 miles to the north.
