Have you witnessed a Haka live, and if so, how awesome was it?

video+sound of Haka - it's clean, but probably best to watch at home rather than work.

That's pretty wild db. I never heard of a haka before. I had to watch it a couple times. Love the looks on their faces!

What the heck are they saying and what is the history behind it? I've only watched one All Blacks game on TV and this was my favorite part. Do any other teams do routines like this too?

What's the deal with the Haka? It's supposed to intimidate the opponent right?

How does it feel to be known as Australia's younger brother?

(Here's me trying to remember stuff about New Zealand from the time I lived in Australia)

There was some rugby player who was very good but suffered from injuries around the 1995-1997 time period. Who was he?

What else is there in New Zealand other than rugby and bungie jumping?

Do you play aussie rules football there?

Do you still have the crazy ass public education commercials? They were masterpieces. I remember my favorite one. It went something like:

A bunch of stoners get high and go driving. The car skids off the road somehow and rolls over. One of the kids is sitting outside the car and all the other kids are still sitting in it upside down. Everyone starts to laugh and they have stoner dialog, "dude. That was soooo awesome". Then, the car bursts into flames and you hear the kids in the car screaming, "Im burning alive!! Im burning alive!! arrrgghhhh....."

Pure gold. I almost died from laughter.

Here's some info about Haka: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haka

At a school up the road from where I live, a visiting NZ junior rugby team did a Haka for their hosts in front of the whole school, so other NZ teams do it.

Oh, osrry for jumping in your thread like this, pp.

Am highjacking Penguins post again. Hopefully he will forgive me. (plus he's probably preparing for the North Island Poker champs on this weekend, I am too much to donk at tournaments qualify)

It depends on the setting. The All Blacks do it to try and scare their opponents but its often done as a greeting or as a celebration (ie whenever we win a medal at the olympics you'll always see lots of hakas)

At least we're not convicts.

There was a famous saying by former Prime Minister Muldoon who said "when a New Zealander leaves NZ to live in Australia it raises the average IQ of both countries". Probably true

Jonah Lomu. Actually he's still trying to play after he had a kidney replacement. It's a bit sad really, like Muhamad Ali playing on long after he should have retired. Even in his prime he was more highly regarded around the world than in New Zealand (tall poppy syndrome is alive and well in New Zealand)

Some beautiful scenery and lots of sheep (sheep to person ration 14:1)

no

PP or argybargy,

I would like to know

- what is so fun about Wellington (what do you do there?),
- how's the nightlife in Auckland?
- is there any good snorkeling in New Zealand and where is it located? and,
- do you guys ever get earthquakes over there because it seems that you are sitting on the edge of a couple of tectonic plates.

Sounds like an inferiority complex to me.

What status does rugby league have in NZ? Obviously it's not as big as the union, but does it have strong regional followings or anything like that? Cracker of a test match last night.

EDIT: I say that as someone who was cheering for NZ, btw.
