In all fairness, I think Houston got his max extension before the Isiah era.

[/ QUOTE ]

you are right.. by a couple years.. sheesh I'm bad. The fact he was still signed and killing the cap make a lot of Isiah's moves even worse, though. but now I'm just grasping for straws.

off the top of my head:

1. In general, acquiring too many players who play the same position. Too many 3s and 2s. Crawford, Jalen Rose, Richardson, Maurice Taylor, Francis, yada yada yada.

2. JEROME JAMES as was said before. A truly horrible signing. Nobody in their right mind could have given that guy that contract.

3. The Steve Francis trade, particularly in giving up on Trevor Ariza.

4. The Malik Rose/Nazzie Mohammed trade. They get a good defender in M. Rose, and then they don't play him.

5. The Jalen Rose acquisition, more from a logjam-at-that-position perspective than from a contract perspective, as the Knicks are hopelessly over the cap.

6. Giving up a #1 in the Curry deal (and giving Chicago the right to swap picks this year).

Thomas has a fairly decent drafting record. Interesting to see how Renaldo plays out.

[/ QUOTE ]

agreed. i think he's a horrible coach and he says stupid [censored], but overall is a pretty good evaluator of talent.

everyone hated on balkman, but he's looked good so far.

I agree about balkman being solid so far. It looks like he'll be solid off the bench giving good rebounding and great energy. He also has solid size and athletic ability. The only problem is he is probably already at or close to his ceiling. Not exactly what you want for a 1rst round pick.

That said, it could've been worse.

Wasn't the whole argument about the pick that you could have waited till the 2nd round to draft him?

Isiah being a good basketball player != Being a good player or GM.

And, on top of that, he comes across -- at least to me -- as an arrogant, nasty person, someone who thinks he is a whole lot smarter than he is; and who apparently has trouble keeping his hands of women in his office.

[/ QUOTE ]
My old man is very good friends with a guy who was Donnie Walsh's right hand man at Indiana for many years, including Isiah's tenure. I was told Isiah was considered an insufferable prick and unscrupulous backstabber by pretty much everyone. And this was after he completely wrecked the CBA after he was supposed to be its "savior". The CBA may not mean a lot to any of you but it was around for like 50 years or something and brought a lot of joy to small market towns - my old man worked for a CBA team for a few years and I was able to attend a few games. Very high quality ball in cozy arenas for dirt cheap.

As for this article, I can't see how Anthony is supposed to hold his tongue during the draft. He's dissing your dumb-ass pick, Isiah, not the Knicks franchise. Learn the difference.

this is not the nfl. most first round picks don't end up materializing into starters, especially picked 20th overall.

former number 20 picks

2005- julius hodge
2004- jameer nelson
2003- dahntay jones
2002- kareem rush
2001- brendan haywood

i know it's fashionable to trash isiah thomas, but even if you can get a rotation player from the 20th pick, you've done a pretty good job drafting.
