paul, depends on reads. AT is usually my cut off, but really depends on the opponent

[/ QUOTE ] Im new to NL Cash but calling leaves you playing a flop oop agaisnt a pf aggressor with AJo. You dont hit a pair that often and no flush draw possibilities. Leaves you in a tough position imo. |

Re: PREFLOP: When you have AJ in the BB...
I probably reraise 40, call 50, fold 10.
I don't reraise as much as everyone else because I think one of 3 things will usually happen: 1) He calls and folds to a c-bet. 2) He doesn't fold to a c-bet, we have nothing and either bluff some more or fold. 3) He doesn't fold to a c-bet, but we have a mediocre hand OOP. Now, in cases 1 and 2, who cares what you have. In case 3, AJ is almost always going to leave you with a hand that's really hard to play. If your hand was stronger or weaker or trickier, you could make some profit by bluffing or value-betting, but with TPGK, or TP of jacks TK, I feel like a lot of villains will end up playing well almost by default. |

I mostly reraise, maybe 80:20 reraise to call. But it depends a lot on who button is, sometimes I will even muck. [/ QUOTE ] |

Re: PREFLOP: When you have AJ in the BB...
If AJo is ahead of button's hand range for raising, I'd like to reraise for the following reasons. (1) My hand is probably best, so getting more money in while I'm ahead is a good thing. (2) I seize the initiative in order to set up a cb on most flop and expect to take down the pot unless villain really has something. (3) I get good information pretty quickly if AJ really isn't best since villain 3-bets or goes big on the flop and I cant get away after only moderate damage to my stack.
On the other hand, if AJo is behind button's range for raising, I'd rather fold since I'm OOP post flop and only hit a pair on the flop about 1/3 of the time - and even if I spike an A, my kicker could be dominated. Without a read, I'd rather wait until I get a read on what villain's range might be before I play back with AJo OOP and heads up in a raised pot. Now, I like to try for a TAGish image. I try to "give action" to "get action" by open raising some speculative hands and playing my draws fast with bets and raises instead of chasing with cold calls. However, if playing a little S/LAGgy works for you, AJo is probably way better than most hands you reraise with in this spot, and so I'd say go ahead and reraise away even without a read and just play carefully post flop. |

paul, both reasons and bet both flops [/ QUOTE ] Why bet A-high flops? I almost never bet A-high RR flops, no matter what I have. |
