It is always a good idea to plug a couple of your favorite songs into Pandora and work from there.

Might be tough to find, but the Jazz Messengers album by Art Blakey (and his Jazz Messengers) is AWESOME...

Another great Art Blakey album is "Live at Birdland" with the great Clifford Brown on trumpet and Horace Silver playing piano.

Other great Miles albums are "Birth of the Cool", "Miles Away", "Around Midnight" and "Sketches of Spain".

"Birth of the Cool" included a nine piece band that plays so nimbly it sounds like a much smaller group. Max Roach's drumming on this record stands out.

Some don't feel that "Sketches of Spain" does not qualify as a jazz album. Be that as it may it is still a stunning work.
"Concierto de Aranjuez" is just a brilliant piece of music.

"Around Midnight" contains Coltrane's first recorded work with Miles. If you can find this in the 2 CD format get it.
