Over 95% of all players who have opened a poker account are likely losers.

I'm not sure where this figure comes from. I hear it alot.

Think about the millions of dollars that are raked each and every month. The majority pay for this.

I would surmise that poker players can be broken down in the following way:

10% winners overall, rake covered + profit
10% break-even, rake covered only
30% lose to the rake only
30% lose to the rake, plus minor losses
20% lose to the rake, plus major losses (relative to level played)

So according to this breakdown, 80% are feeding the rake. I'm not sure people realize just how much is lost to rake, how substantial it is. Getting some sort of rakeback deal is essential.

I have read that between 3 and 5 % of players are long term winners

I think the small % of winners stat is skewed by all the players that deposited $100 or so once, cluelessly donked it off over a couple of sessions, then left and never came back again. If you came up with a stat of players that played X number of hands over X number of months/years, you'd come up with a more reasonable percentage (although winners would still be a minority).

We need a respectable champion to promote the cause, not a poker player, but a John Allen Paulos type person. Someone who can make the statitical evidence come alive for the dullards in congress.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, we need statical evidence for those dullards.

Sorry bro...it's not about the principles and facts of the matter......it's about politics. This all about the Republican clensing campaign......not to mention. If we can't regulate it you can't have it.

Attention Poker Players...Stop voting Republican.......They are bastards.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, let's clense them out of here.

The question is would they do anything about the data even if it helped our cause?

If you were a politician who already was against Online poker would the data change your mind?

You would need something more simple I think to sway someone already on the dark side

It's too easy for someone against poker to say if it's skill explain why the world championship was won by varkoni, moneymaker, raymer, hachem, gould the last few years. It does not matter the astronomical fields odds of winning to them it'just the biggest tournament every year keeps being won by amatuers.

We look at the WPT every week looking to see what pro's are at the table or where or fav pro's cashed. The opponents are looking just for what rookies or lucky people are at the final table.

I believe poker is a game of skill and it helps to be lucky
but we have studied and played the game for a long time.

To joe squish senator who never played the game before it's no diffrent than craps that's where the problem is.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, it's no diffrent than any other game, the amatuers can get hot and clense everybody else out, you could look it up in any statics book.

There is post of a reply from Harry Reid the Senate minority
leader. His was a reply to the internet gambling issue. From
what I remember he didn't give it much support. His bio
on Wikipedia says he served on the Nevada state gaming commissioner. So I figure he has ties to land based casinos.
