Earlier this year, Lidle hosted a charity tournament for make-a-wish and raise 150k. He was known to be an avid poker player and maybe the most notable public player of any American pro athlete.

[/ QUOTE ]

By all accounts he seemed like a great guy. Sucks what happened.

[/ QUOTE ]

That's not really true. He tended to throw his pervious teams under the bus after he left. It's sad that he died, but he wasn't without faults by a long shot.

[/ QUOTE ]

Are you a good guy? Are you without flaws?

Shortly after he left the Phillies and made some backhanded comments about the team, relief pitcher Arthur Rhoades blasted Lidle for among things, "playing online poker and eating ice cream in the clubhouse during games"

Such a shame what happened... RIP

[/ QUOTE ]

At the same time, former teammate Barry Zito said Lidle's habit of snacking in the dugout/clubhouse during games was endearing to his teammates. They nicknamed him "Snacks." A few years ago, Lidle went on a really long scoreless innings streak and Zito said that even during a complete game shutout Lidle was pitching, he was eating ice cream sandwiches in between innings.

I love how people (not you, the one who posted the quote, just people in general) think an athlete isn't taking his job seriously if he's having fun or otherwise doing something besides sitting stoically on the bench and staring at the game.

Lidle was also a started therefore he was only working twice every 5 games. Once pitching and then the day after he is responsible for the charts. Other then that he has nothing to do.

Baseball players also tend to be required to be at the ballpark early like 2 pmish. Now a starter has to run and then he is free, especially in the AL where they dont even have to take BP. I would be playing too.

Wagner also called the phillies a bunch of losers, so Lidle isnt the only one feels this way.

Great, this makes it all the easier for Republicans now to show how the terrorists have infiltrated the Yankees too...

I think you have that backwards...

The Yankees can now show how terrorists have infiltrated the Republicans?

Not sure why they'd care, but certainly seems plausible.

Sad Story this is.... He had a 6 year old son. Shame he had to go out like this.. Seemed like a nice guy who's love of poker/pool/eating in between innings, is something all of us can relate to.

A lot of the negative comments towards Lidle by teammates are due to the fact that he was a replacement player during the last baseball lockout.
He was never admitted to the Players' Union as a result of that. I have to think that this means he won't get a pension from MLB and, since what he died doing is forbidden in his contract, the rest of his contract, this guy really put his family in a tough spot.
Yeah, he's a really good guy.

The Yankees have a specific clause in their contract that any player who pilots a plane must fly with an instructor on board, which allegedly he was.

It's not glorifying Hitler after his death, he wasn't an evil guy, what he pissed some teammates off. Did he pinch a girls ass in sixth grade? Give me a break, show some respect and if you can't shut your mouth and let him RIP.

His contract was up at the end of the season, and he was paid in full for the terms of the 2-year contract he signed with the Phillies.
