Google Buys YouTube

I was just thinking the other day that youtube is like the most trivial non-idea that's totally over-hyped, and it's a mess of liabilities and totally unprofitable. Fortunately they found the way to make money off lame internet sites - sell the company.

I'm pretty sure they made all their money buy selling exclusive spots to shows like The Office, and 30Rock as I am sure NBC paid a lot to have those clips show up on everypage and be hyped everywhere on YouTube. I'm sure these guys made some nice cash before they sold the company.

I apparently had no idea what was involved in setting up youtube. No idea that 1- they were big enough to have 67 people working for them 2- their plan was specific enough that they'd score venture cap. Just kinda thought it was some folks who thought up a good video hosting mechanism.

And that's why they have a billion dollars and I don't.

Cuban said "anyone who buys that (YouTube) is a moron" because of potential lawsuits from copyright violations.
