Flop and turn are fine. The play on the river is definitely to call.

why not raise and fold to a 3bet?

Too much risk for too little gain. There aren't too many playable 2x combos, even for a discount from the small blind. Kx is somewhat possible and should probably call you down but the deck is real light on kings. A middle pair on the order of 66 is also possible, but it should usually raise preflop and a lot of players would bet-fold or check-call the river as opposed to bet-calling.

if it's the kid im thinking of he's not very good but he is decent. i dont think there's anything wrong with just hesitantly calling the river and using the image it will create to make a play on a later hand.

if river was a 4, i was calling his bet. i had seen him call flops like aa9 oop w/ kq and i couldn't see why he wouldn't be doing the same on this flop w/ T8 or something, esp. since i may have seemed scared.

Wouldn't this type of player be raising any Ax from the SB? I think this is a raise and call a 3bet.

"I think this is a raise and call a 3bet."

no. that would be spew. this guy will actually have the A pretty often and think he was clever in playing it the way he did, when in fact all that happened was he missed a bet.
