A mass exodus
to the LP by "Goldwater Republicans" would be great. It would push the GOP even further to the religious right and make it to where even "normal" conservatives couldn't vote for them.
Kind of like what Ralph Nadir did to the Democrats in 2000. I wonder how he sleeps at night. The votes he pulled from the democrates got Bush elected. Those crucial votes have killed more people than many of his safty laws saved. I personally could never be an LP'r. I like big government. I just want my big govenment to represent the people instead of themselves |

Re: A mass exodus
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I like big government. [/ QUOTE ] Then you should be very happy right now. [/ QUOTE ] Wow you must work in the media. Nice job quoting me out of context. I believe our government ought to be big...we are a big country. I DON'T believe the government should be in the business of legislating PRIVATE morality. I believe all income up to a minimum level based on household size should be tax free. After that it should be a straight tax up to some standerd of filthy rich. After that level it should be HEAVILY taxed, and all the money from that level goes to education and healthcare for children. I believe the GOP has screwed up so bad the democrats will take over very soon. Then they will screw it up. I do not balme the politicians at all. I blame the people that buy in to their marketing plans and elect them. Even more, I blame all the people who don't vote, or dont educate themselves before voting |

Re: My Email to the Libertarian Party
[ QUOTE ]
I hope so - any moderately intelligent small-government types who aren't down with the religious nutters should really be looking for a new home. Of course, I'm still a socialist at heart, well sort of, I believe in the rights of the little man (higher minimum wage, flat tax scheme with many less loopholes, companies should pay for all the cleanup costs of their polluting activities, etc) and just don't see the Libertarians (in NZ at least and I assume their principles are similar elsewhere) being particularly strong in that area. But yes, I would rather see Greens and Libertarians in control of the US for a while than the current load of slime. [/ QUOTE ] Needless to say, whether you're for big or small government, you can't be happy right now. About the only people happy right now are the the Religious Right...and, from reading blogs, they're not even thathappy. They had been pressing for more "morality-type" regulations and they were given a scrap at our expense. It's safe to say that the facist end of the party has much more control that the libertarian end of it. Suffice it to say that none of the libertarian ideas (such as social security privatization) have been implemented and the last big libertarian push came under Gingrich (my favorite was the revoking of the "federally-mandated" speed limits . |
