I think I'd like live poker a lot better if I could play 600 hands of it an hour with pop-up stat boxes that let me know exactly how my opponents play. Bonus points if I could also instant message my friends while doing it!

i keep getting a reputation as being 'very tight' even though i'm running at around 25/15 at FR PL games. it really annoys me... yet they still call my pot sized bets?

25/15 is nitty for live poker. I have trouble playing less than 50% of my hands.

Explain how this is in any way annoying? I LOVE this. I don't have to worry about shania or anything. No tough decisions. Just bet, bet, bet, with big hands and draws.

Everyone says I'm a total tight-ass rock at my local home live game, but rest assured whenever people fold because "Oh, it's YOU, so I fold", they aren't really actually folding, like, a PAIR or anything.

VERY VERY VERY Important: Remember you're playing in a capped buy in game (for the most part). If you just buy into the 1/2 game, you have 50bb, as in small pp's not worth your time, and you need to gambo a little bit to get deeper to prey on a weak player with 200+ in front of them.

Just remember you're usually going to be lacking on the implied odds side of things, yet another reason to play an ultra tight style preflop.

good point, adjust to different caps. at the gutshot in london theres a 'fifty game' which is PL1/2 with no cap. I have never played deepstacked before properly so am unsure how to adjust, with most buying in for around £1k. obviously i dont have to buy in that deep, but mentally for them it actually makes me a 'short stack' when i have £200-£300 so have to figure out how to be 'short stacked' when i'm 100bb deep AND do it playing PL.

thoughts? especially from people who have played this game

i dont think hes saying that u SHOULD raise to 10xbb which is usually required to isolate any donkeys..

this is just how things are at lives games..

they call them live ones for a reason

Nice post. But I find live poker kind of like having my eye lids slit open.

I played homegame poker for the first 2 years of my poker career. I've also played at an underground club for a little bit.

I thought most of your post was very accurate. PF is very table specific though, and it also sortve depends on your hand (for instance, I may mix my raises with AK (the raise being bigger) than I would with a hand like 56s or whatever (where my raise may not be as big)). Balance and mixing up your play is only needed vs thinking opponents, which will be rare in live game poker.

Also, always note stack sizes when playing. At the club I played at, players played short alot. So, instead of taking caution with a hand like TPTK like I might with a full stack, my goal was to get it in.

Your right on your opponent's perception of bet sizes...they often do not look at the amount of the pot, and only think about the bet size. Use this to your advantage (manipulate the pot size in accordance to your goals, ie. build it with a set, smaller bets with a draw, etc).

Really observe your opponents. See what they are showing down, and just like online, try to isolate them. One example of this is:

bad player raises to $7 UTG. He was a loose passive calling station who called alot with A high or whatever. I had ATo and raised to $15. Small raise, yeah, but it was a cheap way to isolate. Stuff like that.

Also, yeah, you guys might get bored. But if you can get to know some people, talk a bit, you'll find time passes by much quicker.

Live poker means busting that annoying Jamie Gold clone, and leaving the casino with his cold hard cash in your hands (or, in the case of Pokey, leaving the casino with grandma's money). It is much more satisfying.
