It's obvious Shaq doesn't care about his FTs. He knows he sucks and he doesn't care. Offering to help him is clearly a backhanded insult. Also, even though underhanded might be more accurate, it's not the balla way, and pro ball is mostly about image, so there's no way any current ballin pro would start shooting that way.

he's put a lot of work into getting better through his career, it just hasn't panned out. I've always thought that because he's never shot a jump shot in his life, the motion is a lot less natural for him than other players.

If Shaq started shooting it underhand, couldn't it BECOME balla?

it wasn't very balla after wilt did it.

It'd only become balla if he started nailing it at a 75%+ clip. He probably wouldn't.

If, starting now, Shaq shoots at a 70% clip, does he easily become the best player of all-time? I think the answer is yes.

Heh, what? No.

To the Wilt guy - refresh me, did the Big Dipper shoot free throws underhanded during his career? I knew this at one point in time but it slipped my mind and I think you're right.

Also, LOL at all these athletes thinking underhanded free throw shooting would be so emasculating. It won't affect their getting laid after the game, it won't affect their contracts (although conceivably it could make them more money if their percentage improved), and they can pretty much pound anyone who makes fun of them into the ground. It's remarkable how poor FT shooters like Shaq can't bring themselves to try it.

[/ QUOTE ]NO because hes not as dominant as he used to be. If he shot 70% during his prime then he would be.

tuq,

Wilt tried it for a while. I don't have the details as far as how long, but I'm pretty sure he did.

Anyone shooting under 75% should probably give it a shot, though. From a mechanics point of view, it's the easiest. You get more "touch" because it's two handed, and it's easier to get the most effective arc and spin on the ball. Right now the only downside is any feelings of sillyness throwing you off.
