y. But in a cash game, all that matters is that the house gets their cut right?

[/ QUOTE ]

No, all that matters is that all players are on equal footing. Read what Randy wrote earlier in the thread to understand why the "no dead button" rule came to be.

LA casinos like Commerce have this lame double blind rule, so that there is no "dead button" (I'm talking standard rake games, not button/time collection).

Thankfully, all Vegas rooms allow dead buttons, so you don't see that double blind crap in Vegas (and the dealer tray stays in the box!).

I see no excuse whatsoever for the forward-moving-blind rule except to force extra chips per hour into the middle of the table, and pray the dead button version becomes universal in live games like it is online.

[/ QUOTE ]

The forward moving button was inventedd for games where the button pays money to the casino. In games with a drop on the button there cannot be a dead button.

[/ QUOTE ]

But the forward moving button was used in time games and in games were the drop was taken from the pot. I thought the forward moving button is generally better for the action.

I think it is better for action. I think it was invented so the button could pay the drop, but I certainly wasn't there when it was invented.

Simple way to remember this :

(1) the button can't be on an empty seat
(2) there always have to be two blinds in front of the button
(3) every player has to post his small and big blinds each orbit.

A standard example:

The small blind busts out: the button goes to the guy who posted the big blind on the previous hand, he posts his small blind on the button, and the two players in front of the button post big blinds ("small-big-big"). Next hand after that, both of the bigs still have to post their small blind, so there has to be a small on the button ("small-small-big").

A less-common-but-still-standard example:

Both the small and big blind bust out: the blinds go "big-big-big", followed by "small-small-small-big" (sb on the cutoff, sb on the button, then a small and a big in front of the button. It happens ).

A former Nevada cardroom manager whose name temporarily escapes me used to post on RGP (newsgroup rec.gambling.poker). He had a great deal of knowledge on cardroom policies, game integrity and so on. In his opinion the above is crucial for all sorts of reasons. If you have some knowledge in this area it may be worth a thread. But you have to start it
