Cool Info. Noir or not, any B&W is functional.

This gun for hire is a TV show, correct? I heard they are going to do a movie on it. It is IMDBpro, but there are no details yet, rumor has it that Brad Pitt is attached as the lead role.

Citizen Kane is def a classic. There is an interesting back story here. Bieng Orson Wells first movie, they let him have all editing rights. When the movie bombed, they black-listed him from Hollywood.

Interesting that this is one of the best movies of all time, really makes me wonder how many great flicks pass me up every day. I love going to the indy houses...

Anyway, Orson made all of his films in Europe, until 15(?) years later, they hired him to do a film called Touch of Evil. Apparently the director who was attached to it could not get along with the actors, so he was fired or quit (details?). The part that is interesting is that Orson Wells had a two week hiatus with the film. Within this time, he rewrote the entire script, using the entire cast, the same scenes, and the same budget, without the studios knowing about it. This definitely shows the spirit of independant film making, one that is only bested by Luc Besson.

I have never seen detour, but I will have to pick it up, just scanned the IMDB page and it sounds very interesting. Love the quote, instant classic.

for a modern film that is black and white, you could try "Pi". I would consider it noir as well. But it is unmistakenly modern, so it could be not at all what you are looking for. Great movie though.

If you want a film noir unlike anything Hollywood would make today, try "Mildred Pierce". It won Joan Crawford her Oscar, I have a hard time imagining any modern actress with the ability to take on that role today, though it begs for a remake.
