Re: Trip report: College football in the South (very long)
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] nice...I remember people trying to think of a US equivalent to the passion of national soccer games in Europe. SEC football is the first thing that came to my mind. If you get a chance, goto Baton Rouge for a game sometime. It will be a very similar experience, although the stadium is a little more rickety. [/ QUOTE ] I'd love to see another game down there, rickety stadium or not. Next year it looks like the Cougs are opening at Wisconsin, so we'll get to have the Big 10 experience. [/ QUOTE ] Wisconsin is a very good place to go. It's not quite like the South, but the party scene is excellent in Madison and the bratwurst are second to none. The student section can be out of control at Camp Randall. The Badger 'varsity' thing is overrated IMO. |

Re: Trip report: College football in the South (very long)
I'm glad you had a good time. I spent 5 glorious years on the Plains, I stretched it out to graduate fall quarter so I could get in one more football season. If you thought scene was impressive, come back for Georgia, LSU, Florida, and of course Bama.
Byron's is the Q in town, nursed me through many a sunday hangover. |

Awesome report. Wish we could have been there, sounds like it was a blast. I didn't get to see the game here in NY, but I heard they just pounded the ball with the running game and we couldn't stop them.
Anyway, post some pics if you get a chance! |

[/ QUOTE ] They did pound the ball, but despite big plays on the first four drives, the Cougs only gave up four field goals. The score could have been much worse early on. And before the Auburn fake punt (which was a brilliant call), we actually had momentum and could have made it a game if we had stopped it and scored to make it 26-21 in the third. I'll try to post a few pics if I can make them small enough. |

As requested, a few photos ...
Just before chugging another beer with "Eddie" and (presumably) his wife. This was right before War Eagle swooped into the stadium during pregame. The high point of the game. It was all downhill from here ... I thought about taking a shot of the final scoreboard, but couldn't bring myself to do it. |
