I have only been to Motor City but I have been there probably around 30 times or so. I have always parked in the garage and have never had a problem. I was approached by a bum once but I hardly would consider that a problem. Its right off the lodge so you can literally be on the freeway within a minute from leaving the casino. I have even gotten gas at the gas station in that area and I had no problems. Sample size is like 3 on that one though.

I should rephrase since that statement wasn't accurate. The games may be good, but the rake is sky high($5 max +$1 for the bad beat) and the dealers aren't getting too many hands/hour. The NL rake is also high.

I, too have stopped at that gas station, but there are usually a bunch of people loitering around so I don't feel too comfortable.

Amen. There are a LOT of gamblers here! I run into a dozen every time I go to Vegas (and no they're not the ones on the plane w/ me ;-)). Add into this the poor economy (big 3 not so good) and I wonder how long it will be before everyone has their house up for sale?

The structure that's connected to it, or the one by the freeway? Keys held between the fingers like extra "knuckles" are also a good idea

Yes they are in terrible areas, but you dont play in the "areas", you play inside the casino which is very safe and secure. I always park valet in either Greektown or MCC so I dont have to walk alone in the parking structue late at night. It is worth the $1 tip and the short wait. Just dont stop for gas anywhere or drive on side streets too much. There are exits right off of I-75 and Lodge right next to the casinos. MGM casino does not yet have a poker room.

I still don't understand how people can continue to live and move to this city. As bad as it is most everywhere, it just amazes me since there are a million other places to live which are safer, cleaner, and overall just better than Detroit.

I agree with the sentiment, but I'm not sure anyone actually is moving to Detroit. It has in fact lost half its population since its peak in 1950.

Many of those who claim "detroit" aren't actually living in the city limit per se. The rest of Michigan is a shithole as well?
