It really depends. i.e., I have a sister 5.5 years older than me (6 in terms of school). She got the shaft compared to me. Being a girl, she was already more scrutinized. Being the first, my parents were more strict with her. By the time I rolled out, they had lightened up a bit on certain things. I just had it much, much easier with my parents.

In addition, I was the punk little brother who would annoy the crap out of her when she had friends over. I never had to deal with that.

Also, I've learned a great deal from my sister, because she's always just a couple years removed from whatever phase in life I'm at now.

And finally, I got her car when she moved to california, for free.

EDIT: to clarify, it's just me and my sister.

I have a younger brother and sister, and I am damn happy that I'm the oldest. I get to do everything fun first, while they would have to sit there and watch and wait. I couldn't imagine how jealous I would get to have an older sibling get a driver's license, graduate high school, become sexually active, legally buy alcohol, go to the bars, gamble etc. while I would have to wait several years for my chance. (the exception of course becoming sexually active, but I would assume that's generally how things work)

I think this really depends on the gender of the sibling and what kind of person they are.

I've got an older brother, but he was (and still is) a huge nerd that never went out to parties, dated, anything like that. So while normally an advantage of being younger is that the older sibling "softens" up the parents, that wasn't true at all for me. My folks never had to deal with issues like curfew, etc, with my brother.

That being said, I'm pretty happy with how I grew up and wouldn't want to change, really.

When I made my first post I wasn't even thinking about the fact that odds are i'm going to have to live long enough to see both of by bros die, this alone is enough reason that being the youngest sucks

Klompy,

Unless you're like coffee, where there's a big age gap, do you really think you're going to see both of your brothers die? If they're a year or two younger, it doesn't take much of a difference in lifestyle to make their expectancy greater than yours.

my oldest bro is 10 years older then me, and the middle child is about 6 years older then me.

given this, with my current lifestyle I dont see myself living past 35 so to be honest it prob wont be a problem.
