Anyone have any Rye recommendations? Been wanting to try some...

I like the Van Winkle. It's called family reserve or something like that.

On El D's recommendation I tried the Old Potrero rye. Good stuff. Can't get it where I am.

Acutally, could you tell me about grappa? I had some fairly crappy grappa one night after I was already pretty drunk as my drink for a drinking game. I didn't think I'd buy anything like that again, but apparently there are expensive grappas out there that might be good. I know how they're made and such, but could you tell me a little bit about what they taste like?

I have not had many. One I posted about a couple months ago was a new one from a small craft distillery and winery in Idaho. If you see it, give it a try. It is Koenig, and they make a grappa and some clear fruit brandies. So far I have tried the pear brandy and the grappa. Both pretty good. Kind of funny, last week we were at a pretty good Italian restaurant and they had a decent grappa list it looked like. I asked the waiter for a recommendation and he said port, all the grappa sucked. So I went with the port. Maybe there is a reason many of us don't know our grappas.

Wookie,

I mention Hangar One as one of my faves in this thread. I've had the Citron, Kaffir Lime, and Mandarin. Haven't had the straight or Raspberry.

El D,

Yeah, I knew I'd seen the name tossed around on the forums. If I was just going to pick up one of those, which was your favorite?

MW,

Kaffir Lime, definitely. Though, once I try it, I suspect the Raspberry might become my favorite.

what it forgot about plymouth gin is that it's the original spirit that martinis were made of.

gilper, the monk's name is brother ignatius. Go do the distillery tour, it's worth it

just picked up some Hendricks Gin (excellent, never had it) and some Westerhall Rum (haven't tried it yet).

oh and some Goslings, b/c I like Goslings.

I've gone back and forth on Vodka, and picked up a handle of Stoli. I think it's a decent value. there are a lot of vodkas that are a lot more expensive and only marginally better.

Mmmmm Hendricks gin. Citronelle here in town makes an excellent Hendricks and tonic. They mix the tonic from scratch at the bar and it is great. Now I'm craving one.
