[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Now that I think about it, it had to be OK. After all, if you start with 1500 chips you have to double up sometime, and whether you do that sooner or later is not so important. [/ QUOTE ] This however is absolute rubbish. [/ QUOTE ] Sorry, maybe I expressed the idea poorly. Are you saying that there is a fundamental advantage to waiting until later in the game to get my chips in (assuming the ev of the hand is the same)? Or do you mean that the ev on this sitaution was simply too low and I should have waited for a more optimal hand? Onnel [/ QUOTE ] The former, read this forum and you will see it's all about tight early, aggressive late. You should NEVER feel that you 'have' to double up in the early levels because, frankly, most of the time you will not. It's really as simple as that. |

Right tigerite, I understand the theory of tight early loose later. I've also found myself going in to 100/200 with 1300 chips a fair amount and still coming out fine, so I'm ok with it.
That goes back to my original quest in the first post. How tight early? Do I fold AK? It seems like everyone would agree, no. So while I'm not expecting to double up early (and I'm definitely not), I shouldn't completely abandon the chance to by folding absolutely everything. I've been learning a ton from this forum and really appreciate everyone who shares their knowledge on it! Onnel |

Well no folding here would be terrible, but I prefer a call here, frankly.

I agree with everything that has been said by Pilket and tigerite, but I want to give my 2cents.
If I am playing one table, I normally just call here. I believe I can develop reads and outplay people in the later stages. However, if I am 4-6 tabling, I just push as I am not going to be making reads. |

If you are not making reads, you're playing too many tables.

After all, if you start with 1500 chips you have to double up sometime, and whether you do that sooner or later is not so important. [/ QUOTE ] Actually it makes a world of difference. Things to consider are whether or not you NEED to take a risk doubling up (hint, w/ low blinds, you probably don't), and how much $ equitity you gain by doubling up at a given point. The (free) tutorial that comes with SNGPT touches on this. Also, regarding AK, curtains wrote a really good article on playing AK in early levels. I think you can search for +SNG +article w/ username curtains (newer than 1 yr old). I'm still learning all this stuff too. I think I'm starting to understand the theory, if not the application. I'm sure I'll see you at the 3.40s. GL |
