getting BB to fold improves your chances for what? calling down with K high?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, for starters. You're ahead of his range with this hand so calling down will be profitable against him. Folding BB's weak A or better K is huge.

I totally agree this hand is 3bet or fold. Personally I fold but only cuz I suck with SB 3bets. If you continue there is tons of hands you want a good BB (which for this hand is an assumption) to fold.

As played I think it's perfect , I don't know what else you would do.

so you calldown when he raises you on the flop?

do you also check the turn if he calls your flop bet?

I dont think this guy is going to fold to your flop bet too often.

This makes sense, but I don't think it is always appropriate to ignore the size of the SB when deciding to call or raise.

If it is folded to us in the SB and we have a steal opportunity, the cost of a steal raise is smaller in a 2/3 than a 1/2. This means we can raise with less immediate expected fold equity, because we are getting better odds. If our opponents did not adjust to increased stealing, it should be correct to steal from the SB with a wider range in a 2/3 than a 1/2.

But you can also call with less equity because you are getting better odds.

The final amount of money in the pot that you hope to win will be the same regardless of the blind structure. The only EV difference between 1/2 and 2/3 is that you must invest 1/6 SB less in the pot when the structure is 2/3. Thus the EV of calling or raising will be 1/6 SB higher in a 2/3 structure.

That means you can profitably play more hands in a 2/3 structure. But it has absolutely no effect on the comparative EV of calling or raising. The 1/6 saving benefits the two plays equally.

If you don't mind variance, go for it.

Keep in mind that you only have King high, with an eight kicker.

Also, how would you have played the flop, turn etc... had you NOT hit?

The reason I don't like a turn c/r is that he could have a wide range of very weak hands he's planning on taking to SD, but would be happy to check behind on the turn with. It might be close though.

Is this thread from the bizzaro world? A guy who raises 1/3 of his hands raises on the button and we're holding K8s. This is a 3 bet every time. In fact calling in the SB in general is extremely weak. Your hand factors to be ahead of his range, this is a pretty easy isolation reraise. What's more is if you call and big blind comes along you're now in the worst absolute and relative position with a marginal hand in a pot that is virtually the same size had you 3 bet and that you don't even have the initiative.
