Because personal choices can hurt people around you? SECOND HAND SMOKE!!!
Just saying, comparing to eating fast food is dumb, if I eat a burger you don't get any calories. I don't care if people smoke or if they make it illegal, no real difference to me, but some of the arguments people make that 'smoking hurts no one else' are a little off in my opinion.

[/ QUOTE ] I worked as a "site supervisor" this summer at a non-profit, and when nothing was going on, I'd take some of the workers outside and supervise them sweeping the streets of Boston. People would never dare throw a coffee cup on the ground while we were out sweeping, but people never failed to throw a cigarette butt onto the ground five feet from someone sweeping (95% cigarette butts) off the ground. Whenever I saw this I definitely let them have it. They always went from afraid to dumbfounded to feeling like [censored]. I mean seriously, its [censored] garbage and you're throwing it on the ground. (preemptive strike- yes, if he didn't throw it on the ground, there'd be nothing to sweep and the guys wouldn't have a job LOLZOIEOIROIR. Lame excuse.)
