Re: Best Book or reference for no limit, $1/$2 cash casino game

Is playing super tight the best way to do it or does mixing it up with raises in late positions with Q-J suited help disguise my later hands? [/ QUOTE ] These are way too general questions. Read a book and specific hands in different posts on the forum to get an idea of what you are doing. |

What's the difference between NLTAP and the Green book? [/ QUOTE ] NLT&P assumes that you already have a requisite level of poker knowledge and most likely have read or are at least familiar with the concepts introduced in Theory of Poker. The Little Green Book is more geared toward the beginner, but it has several very good sections that cover things that we talk about every day in this forum. It also has starting hand charts which I'm sure will help some people. They are two different approaches meant for two difference audiences. I think that a SSNL player can glean valuable info from both. |

I would recommend Mastering No Limit Hold 'em A Guide to Cash Games by Russel Fox and Scott T Harker.
It concentrates on fixed buy in NL cash games. Good beginner NL cash game book. |

Re: Best Book or reference for no limit, $1/$2 cash casino game
Like the title suggests, NLTAP is very theoretical and doesn't cover play in specific situations. It focuses on the factors that you should consider when making a decision: how to think about the game. The book has some concrete practical advice, including a preflop strategy, but mostly covers very general concepts.
Little Green Book is much more practical, basically giving you a description of how Phil Gordon plays poker. It covers lots of different specific situations (i.e. how to play flush/straight draws, one pair, bottom two, etc. on various flops). I'd recommend Green Book first. It's advice is easy to apply and should quickly improve your game. NLTAP is more advanced and will help you best after you have a solid grasp of how to play. |

I read it. I thought the best part was the shorter "concepts" section at then end.

[ QUOTE ] No Limit Theory and Practice [/ QUOTE ] worth its weight in chips. its taking me forever to digest [/ QUOTE ] Just its section on sizing bets to ensure you get your opponents entire stack when you have a great hand has more than paid for the book itself. (maybe this is just common knowledge to most, and maybe its me finally "understanding" a lot of things I've read in other books, but I just finished TOP before I started this and I think those two combined have made a TREMENDOUS improvement in my play) |

NLTAP is very theoretical and doesn't cover play in specific situations. [/ QUOTE ] Because every situation is different there is no right or wrong way to handle a situation but the factors NLTAP discusses are key to be a long term winner, there is no cookbook NL cash book out there b/c its not possible to actually write one. |
