Re: Variance - Stud vs Razz
So I guess I'll keep playing razz. I will probably switch to HORSE cash games when they come out on full tilt.

Re: Variance - Stud vs Razz
Does PS have HORSE cash games? I imagine there is a lot of fishy play in a low limit HORSE game.

Split pot games are always less swingy for a good player and generally require a smaller bankroll. That's my understanding anyway. Jeff [/ QUOTE ] Stud 8/b has a lot more variance in it that Omaha 8/b does, for sure. But to the OP: Stud high is the most variance-laden game. It's sickening. |

Re: Variance - Stud vs Razz
Tell me about it. Actually, I've personally found loose aggro 80 hold em games to have more variance than 75 stud but I think that's just based on how the games in Atlantic City play. You certainly get sucked out on more at the stud tables. GL.

Stud 8/b has a lot more variance in it that Omaha 8/b does, for sure. [/ QUOTE ] Not in my experience. I probably have only played 50kish hands in each game at mid-high stakes and O/8 was much more swingy in my experience. Maybe it's because I'm a bit better at stud/8 and I've yet to run across a tough stud/8 game, but I've hit several 100bb+ downswings in Omaha and none in stud/8. Also, it's definately easier to lose a good amount in a wild Omaha game than in a wild stud/8 game. |

[/ QUOTE ] There is no way either of these statements could possibly be true unless you are playing microlimits or very low limits, and even then I highly doubt it. In Stud 8/b you should be jamming early and often and your opponents are very often drawing live, despite their negative equity at times. In Omaha 8/b unless you are a sickening LAG, you shouldn't get quartered/scooped all the time causing these 100 BB swings. Always play for 3/4 of the pot in Omaha 8/b - aim to quarter your opponents. No offense, but I think that either you are playing Stud 8/b too passively or you're playing Omaha 8/b way too aggressively/loosely. |

As far as variance goes, stud>>>holdem>>>>omaha/8>>>stud/8>>>>>>>razz. [/ QUOTE ] Hi all, This sounds reasonnable to me but has anybody actually done an analysis of this? thanks |

As far as variance goes, stud>>>holdem>>>>omaha/8>>>stud/8>>>>>>>razz. [/ QUOTE ] This may be true if all things else are equal. However, there is a lot more loose aggressive play in holdem than stud, so in reality a typical mid limit holdem game on saturday night may be more swinging than a typical mid limit stud game on saturday night. |
