Miami Ink is OK, but I like the show 'Inked' better on A&E. It's about the tattoo shop at the Palms in Vegas. There is more going on than just tattoo crap at the shop.

this guy is the most amazing artist I've seen.

[/ QUOTE ]

I've been browsing his portfolio for the past hour or two. some amazing work, especially the biomechanical and the miniature stuff.

While I appreciate the image, I'm still not convinced that any of it is worth deforming one's body for. Great to look at though.

I think that argument can pretty much be made for all 'artists'. I agree they're not exactly the most stable people, even trying too hard to be 'on the fringe', but some of their tattoos are absolutely sick. You can't really deny their talent.

I don't deny they're ability to draw some pretty cool stuff.

I enjoy both shows and appreciate (good) tattoos and (good) tattoo artists a bunch. Regardless of one's opinions about tattoos themselves both of these shows feature interesting personalities and are well-edited and compelling.

Re: Anil Gupta, one of the interesting things about him is that (as of a few years ago) he had no tattoos himself. He clearly does some amazing work and is probably most famous for his miniatures, which a lot of tattoo artists seem to bristle at for a few reasons.

Inked has a lot more of watching stupid people be stupid factor, like a lot of MTV and dating shows. The two female receptionists they've been through and the apprentice there, for instance. I don't get into the exceedingly or intentionally dumb, find it boring, but others find it funny. also, I think they were doing better with the partner from the 1st season who quit. though he had some dumbness factor too, like when he went to confront the dumb receptionists boyfriend and posse in front of the store. he's got his cap down over his eyes and he starts bowing his arms and almost rhyming like some video rapping clown. how in the world did he get to be like that that he would adopt those mannerisms with a straight face.

also, re Jonathan Antin, how does such a hairstyling superstar manage to go on so long wtih such a terrible just out of bed haircut?
