IndieMatty? [/ QUOTE ] This guy likes music packaged in [censored] and with names like Anal Blast. That's not indie. That's not anywhere close. That's just [censored], loud, punk, "noise" music. Whatever the [censored] that is. |

Punk is not noiserock. That is just noise with nice haircuts and john cage references ie crap. It thinks it is free jazz but it is neither. Punk is awesome a very tuneful but loud. Hipsters are the anithesis of punk. Sez I.
Edit: Upon finishing the article I realized that it is a brilliant sarcastic sendup of hipsterdom. Replies to this thread: 5th level? This cannot be something someone would really ever say: [ QUOTE ] "That's why things like MySpace and file-sharing turns me off, because it takes the sweat out of the underground," he says. "It just makes everything so [censored]' easy. There's no passion, no pursuit. You might as well be checking your [censored]' bank balance." [/ QUOTE ] |

I love guys like this, who traded like crazy, only to see technology grant everybody access to the music over which they once had exclusive domain. Now they're bitter, because it was never about loving and sharing the music as it was who had the biggest collection.

Re: The most pretentious douchebag I have read about in a long, long time
Considering this is music criticism, and that it's from the Village Voice, I have to say that it could be a hell of a lot worse. Sure, the crap about how it's morally wrong for good music to be readily available is pretty obnoxious, but consider this replacement for the last paragraph:
Fernow once purchased a CD by Swiss gross-out kings Runzelstirn & Gurgelstock that's literally packaged in [censored]. "We're the only distributors for true Swedish Scat-Rock in this country," he explains, his eyes glowing with the pride of a new discovery. "Here's a band that's so passionate about their music, so profoundly intense, that they actually attach their own excrement to every album. And, in order to appreciate their sound, you have to prove that you are equally passionate, that you share their deep sense of a true musical weltanschauung. And really, what better way to prove that than my buying a cd covered in [censored]?" |

Check out this review of the poo-cover band from the band's own website: [ QUOTE ]
"This is a binaural recording" it proclaims on the sleeve, which consists of a video style cassette case with clear plastic inserts providing track information, a David Jackman-style design and a question mark rattling loose inside. I think 'binaural' means that you get the opportunity to be deafened in different ways in each ear if you are foolish enough to play this on headphones. A random smattering of grating synth noises, gargling vocals, the sound of drilling feedback and that damned plumber again, all proves very Jackman/Rupenus in style. - Music From The Empty Quarter (UK). [/ QUOTE ] Runzelstirn & Gurgelstock This band...6th level? |
