I'm not exactly sure what that movement is called, but what I do know is that it will do a much better job of impressing the guys in the boardroom.

YES! Someone needs to change this guy's title so I can remember who he is.

Would it help if it got changed to "Voltron".

[/ QUOTE ]

I suggest you get your title changed to 'Master of Pronouns'. Evan was obviously referring to the OP.

What is it called when the second hand on a nice watch does not tick, but instead moves around continuously. I can't seem to figure out if this has something to do with quartz vs. mechanical movement. Can both of these movements do this and if so does it have a specific term?

[/ QUOTE ]

Most all watches that move "continuously" actually do not truly sweep. They jsut tick very fast.

In general, mechanical movements tick several times per second and quartz movements have thier second hand tick one per second. Typcailly, most "nice" mechanical watches (IWC, rolex, ETA/Valjioux based watches such as brietling, omega, cartier, TAG, etc, and more brands that are ETA and non-ETA) tick 4 times per second or very near that.

Very few mechanical watches actually sweep. IIRC, this nice one from seiko actually does sweep due to drastic changes internally (but i've never seen it in action).
