Re: Twins question
What he said. And for the Twins to get anyone worth aquiring, they would probably have to give up someone they shouldn't.

Re: Twins question

lol [/ QUOTE ] It's not. Unless you consider Mauer, Kubel, Nathan, Morneau, Liriano, and Santana tradeable talent - and their farm system is pretty barren. Unless, of course, you think that they would trade one of those named players already in the big leagues. You're a retarded Twins homer. |

[/ QUOTE ] if ortiz agrees to play for the major league minimum, the twins sign him in a flash. the only change between that and the team offering arbitration is money. ergo, money is the difference between ortiz staying or leaving. surely the twins had some reason to believe that ortiz would not be worth what he made in arbitration, while jacque jones would...right? but it's a pretty standard move to non-tender a guy when you don't want to pay the expected arbitration salary and he refuses to sign for less. |

Re: Twins question
Ugh. Not offering someone arbitration is usually a bad idea - it's a gamble, but one you frequently have to take in order to pick up draft picks.

Re: Twins question
But you can say that about anybody - "they'd have kept him if he made less." The key thing is not that he was making too much, but what did they value him at?

Re: Twins question
The problem is that the Twins currently dont have enough talent to get into the playoffs as they are overmatched by both the White Sox and Yankees. Maybe making a move is a bad choice but doing nothing will result in the Twins missing the playoffs this year I am afraid.
