I would say check/call is much better then bet/fold in this situation.
I think people seriously underestimate the power of the check/call. Inducing bluffs is sweet. I am sure I have made up a decent amount from river bluff bets that I lost by having a worse hand check behind. The way you played it, the river is a call you get sucked into having to make without a strong read on the guy. That was a draw heavy board on the flop and he might be bluffing you off of your draw (even though he would then be on a draw himself). I think 1 in 9 times you win this hand against this guy. Plus you get a little better read on the guy for future situations. |
