You should call them first, although honestly if the bank didn't even have $2,000, you should find another bank. Even a grocery store bank should have that, much less a decent-sized branch bank.

That said, a team member tried to just show up at the bank and withdraw $40,000 in cash for a trip. The bank managed to run around and scrape up the money, but they explained that in the future, he would need to call before making such large cash withdrawals. That way, they could be sure to have sufficient cash delivered for the day when he planned to withdraw. You can't assume that high rollers will always wire the money. They can for poker, but for blackjack, where people are playing under assumed names, then it is unavoidable that you learn how to deal with handling cash.

But a bank running out of $2,000 in hundreds...that is pathetic. Simply unacceptable. Perhaps you could schedule an appointment with the branch manager to discuss the matter. Or perhaps you should simply choose another branch bank, after first talking frankly to the account officer and telling her that at times you will be depositing or withdrawing cash. A bank that can't handle cash should quietly close its doors in shame.

I have a tiny bank that only recently expanded outside of my parish (county). It has never run out of hundred dollar bills, even when I am making large withdrawals. Any bank branch that services lots of businesses that deal in cash such as shrimpers, construction, restaurants, etcetera should have a decent amount of cash on hand. Of course you need to provide proper documentation of your identity to your bank, so that they can file the proper federal forms required when you deposit or withdraw large sums of cash -- but you will do that anyway, I'm sure.

I once cashed a financial aid check and the bank told me I had to come back later, they didn't have enough cash at the moment.

Does anyone else hate the fact that $100 are the highest cash denomination? once you get past 2k all theose bills become a hassel. They need to bring back the $500 bill

[/ QUOTE ]

I think they should skip the $500 and issue $1,000 bills. It'd be so much easier for casinos.

When were $500s pulled?

The last year they were printed was 1969, supposedly to combat organized crime (i.e. make it harder to transport large amounts of money). With wire transfers and electronic money, that's mostly moot nowadays. The Euro gets along nicely with EUR 200 and EUR 500 bills.

That's ridiculous. It's just bad management on the bank's part. Maybe they're trying to cut corners somehow by keeping less cash on hand.

I stopped at Wells Fargo this morning to get $1500 for my trip to Las Vegas. The teller had a big stack of $100s in her drawer; she wouldn't have had to step away from the counter even if I had asked for 3x or 4x as much.

I even got one of the old $100s. So ugly. I much prefer the bigger picture of Ben.

Try not losing all your money every session and you won't have this problem :P

haha, that is another story for another thread...

.. but seriously, why not keep an emergency stash of $3000 in a book in your room? you'll always have some money ready no matter what the situation is -poker or emergencies

[/ QUOTE ]
yeah, I actually do try and do this. But, then after one bad session... and pulling a good amount of money straight from that stash for a bachelor party / wedding a couple weeks ago, and my stash was down to about a grand. Thus I needed to make a few withdrawals.

gambling in EU is so great. 500 Euro notes are the best thing ever. And they're worth more like 650$
