Re: UTR B&M Movie: The Cincinatti Kid (is 5 card stud still played?)
I am in the process of building a time machine to go back in time and bang Ann-Margeret and Tuesday Weld.

[ QUOTE ]
'You only paid the looking price, lessons cost extra' is probably the greatest poker related line ever. [/ QUOTE ] Yes. A close second: Sucker: "Nobody bets $193 on a lousy pair!" The Kid, after calling the sucker's bluff with a pair of 8s: "You did!" |

Re: UTR B&M Movie: The Cincinatti Kid (is 5 card stud still played?)
This was an excellent movie. The final scene was very well done and definately ahead of its time.
I still play 5-stud once in a while, but like someone said it doesn't take a whole lot of skill to play right (makes it easy to pwn n00bs). |

No question this is probably tied for first place in poker movies with Rounders. Along with the Hustler and The Color of Money these may be the best movies ever made about action and gambling.

Re: UTR B&M Movie: The Cincinatti Kid (is 5 card stud still played?)
They play an odd variation of 5 card stud in Los Angeles area casinos called "Mexican Poker". It is played with 8's-10's removed from the deck. Something like 567jq is a straight. It is also played with a joker that is wild for different things depending on if it is in the hole, or showing. Also with each subsequent card you can choose to expose your hole card and receive the next card dealt face down. Most of the games are $2-4 I think, but Bike at least occasionally used to get a NL game of it going. Most of the players had $400-1000 on the table.
