Re: US soccer coach Arena is out.
Yeah, it was best for Bruce to go at this point. But I too believe he deserves a thanks for everything he's done for U.S. soccer.

[ QUOTE ] BTW, I'd like to thank Bruce for his service to US Soccer. [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] I would too. The US national team has gone as far as they can under Arena, but he did a hell of a job to get them this far. He's a good coach and I wish him good luck. As for his replacement, almost certainly Klinsmann in the long run, but probably not right away as Klinsmann has said he is not interested in the job right now. He probably will be after 6 months or so off with his family and a large salary offer from US Soccer. Don't know who a possible caretaker manager would be in the meantime, but it's not like there's anything that important coming up immediately anyway. |

[ QUOTE ] BRING ON THE KLINNSMAN! [/ QUOTE ] most obvious move ever [/ QUOTE ] don't be surprised if Frank Yallop becomes the coach. He led San Jose to an MLS championship and had a good record with Canada before leaving Canada. His San Jose teams were based on attacking play and he has a very good raport with Landon Donovan. Personally, I think that Klinsmann would be a good hire since Hiddink is basically comitted to Russia and Scolari is staying on at Portugal. I do think that whoever it is that takes over the reigns of the US team focuses on attacking play and has connections in europe so as to get more US players playing over there. I also wouldn't mind seeing them take a possible risk in hiring a national team coach as long as that risk favors attacking play. The next coach should also be able to speak spanish as a requirement(or at least be in the process of learning it). We need to open ourselves up to the spanish speaking population in teh US if we are to get better in the world |

Re: US soccer coach Arena is out.
From one of many ESPN articles about Klinsmann taking over:
While there are certainly players who are sad to see Arena go, there are also players who are relishing the chance to play for a new coach. Landon Donovan isn't one of those players. You could already hear the uncertainty in Donovan's voice in an interview with ESPN just hours after Arena's dismissal. Donovan commented at not knowing whether he'd really be considered to be captain by the team's next coach and sounded a little uneasy about the prospect of playing for a national team coach other than Arena for the first time in his career. This sounds like Charlie in Mighty Ducks 3. All we need is Hans throwing C's at Landon and maybe he'll snap out of it and start playing well again. |
