Re: Help your dealers
Thanks Juanez - nice to hear the simple stuff spelled out again for us n00bs. The few times I have played live in the small stakes NL games, dealer has always pointed at the the relevant player at showdown and said "show" - is this not the norm?

Re: Help your dealers
[ QUOTE ]
SHOW YOUR CARDS at a showdown. [/ QUOTE ] I started dealing in some underground games and tournaments in my area a few months ago, and have a comment about this. I understand that from a player's point of view that there are times he wants to show down a very bad hand because it affects how the other players regard his play. I also understand the admonition to inexperienced/unlearned players to table their cards face up if they don't know for certain the outcome. However, from this dealer's point of view and from the point of view of getting out as many hands as possible I strongly prefer that when players realize that they are beaten after all betting action has ended on the river, they muck their cards. Obviously, this would not apply in a jackpot situation. After having gone through the all the action that many hands entail, my mind automatically, subconsciously assumes that there must have been a reason for a player to play his cards to the river, putting in chips all along the way. So when he tables his hand face up I try to make a winner out of his cards. After all, why the F*ck was he playing his cards all the way to the end if he never had even a draw, which is often the case? So, if you don't have sh*t, MUCK your damn cards, and spare me and everyone else at the table the time it takes for me to figure out that you can't win. I'm trying to speed things along, but you're needlessly slowing me down, and then you and everyone else complains that I'm dealing too slowly as I deal cards, sell tournament re-buys, wait for all the would-be "Hollywooding" actors to pause for an absurd amount of time before finally acting on their hands. So, if you know you can't win and the hand is over, MUCK YOUR CARDS so I can push the pot, move the button, gather the cards, make sure the blinds are posted as I shuffle and cut the cards, and then deal the next hand. Thanks [/rant] |

Re: Help your dealers
Swami:
I remember a conversation with a dealer at a table. The winner of a pot had asked to see the loser's cards. The dealer correctly told him that if loser's cards are better, they'll play (if anyone else at the table had asked, the loser's cards stay mucked). I asked the dealer, does the situation (loser has the better hand) come up often, to which he replied 'all the time', and the person who asks to see the loser's cards often goes ballistic, but that's the rule. Anyway, my point is that people muck winning hands all the time. So, if I want to table my cards and let the dealer figure it out, I'm going to keep doing so. Figuring out who actually won is part of your job. |

Re: Help your dealers
Showdown you have two options, and they both start with the word instantly.
1.) Instantly table your hand. If you want to declare it, fine, personally as a player I never declare my hand when there's a dealer but I like when players do it for me.(go figure. If you think you have the best hand, instantly table it. 2.) Instantly muck your hand. I don't like this, everyone wants to see the winning hand, but if you don't want to risk having to table, it works. |

Usually the dealer says "show me a winner" and does not specifically ask anyone to show cards. As you know, there is an order in which the cards should be exposed, but in the name of speed and dealer tips, this is rarely followed, at least from what I have seen. I usually flip up the winner immediately, if I think I have it. However, if the other guy is a sunglass wearing, Ipod listening, time killing, WPT wannabee....I will just stare at him until he shows his cards (if he has to first). Maybe the guy will get the hint. |

Re: Help your dealers
Some casinos are different, in some it's "whoever was showing aggression last" shows first and in some it's just position. I have heard it's both ways at Foxwoods(standard) so I just say show me a winner and if it goes to the uber slow who's got what I just say "first one to show me a hand wins the pot."

Re: Help your dealers
Now Tom, I do all that at the Woods.
The dealers could also speed the game up by refusing to fish my hand out of the muck pile in IWTSTH situations. |
