Yes, I see this. You lead, he calls with a J or any reasonable pocket pair and possibly a draw. If he's kindly, he reraises you out of the pot at this stage. You then check the turn and...

I'm check-calling turn and river.

We have position in the hand.

My apologies. I saw UTG...I probably do bet the flop then.

He may have been semi-bluffing on the flop with a flush draw. But I can't think of what suited hands he could have. AsKs he probably would have re-raised PF. AsQs isn't a possibility because you have the Qs. AsJs isn't because the Js is already on the board. AsTs isn't possible because the Ts came on the turn. KsQs isn't possible because you have the Qs. So now that I analysed that, I probably wouldn't say he was semi-bluffing with a flush draw.

Is there any value at all in 3-betting all-in on the flop, or is Villain going to play perfectly here all the time?

I can't think of a single advantage to 3-betting the flop.

You are putting the BB on way too tight a calling range PF.

See, THIS is why I check the flop so much in these spots. You're just guessing now.

I often find myself checking here too. Okay, so an A or a K on the turn is bad and Kramer is right, it is much easier to check the flop w/AA or KK, but I think this is a situation where we are either way ahead or way behind. No need to make a worse hand fold or expose ourselves to a check/raise from a strong hand.

Looks good so far, and If he pushes the river, I guess I have to fold unless a spade or Q hits seems fine too.

Please post results after any discussion is over. I think you'll see a lower PP more often than jacks here, trying to get you to fold your overcards on the flop. The spade on the turn might be enough to give a jack a pause, I'm with Kramer here. This is pretty tough...and I hate to not extract some value from lower PPs.

[/ QUOTE ]

The river was a low spade. He check/folded to my bet on the river.
