For a beginner or intermediate, "Starting Strength," by Mark Rippetoe, is, IMHO, clearly the best book to read.

YES! WINNAR!

I've been posting about this book over and over again to people who have asked about lifting in OOT. Get it and get it now!

I haven't read this book, but I've heard this is a great book for learning how to do the right exercises correctly. I think someone told me it was as good as a book could get in terms of teaching proper form for the big compound exercises I've been preaching.

P.M., I don't really have a nutrition rec outside of The Ketogenic Diet: A Complete Guide for the Dieter and Practitioner by Lyle McDonald. But I'd also look at the nutrition forum at dragondoor.com and t-nation.com.
