yeah, I figured that if I was going to write about my sleazy movie tastes for an hour+ I might as well post it wherever I get the chance.

and yes, i had forgotten that Dawn of the Dead was released unrated after the MPAA had threatened it with an X. Same result for the picture, but not technically an X.

1. Truth or lies- It does both at different times, and occasionally both at the same time.

2. Siblings- Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes.

3. F/X moment- Don't know if this really counts, but the trainwreck in The Fugitive was pretty impressive.

4. Damon or Clooney- Despite what others have said, this is damn close, and I'm a huge Clooney fan. Gotsta be George, though.

5. Movie I've encouraged people to see- Low budget movie called El Chupacabra. Quite possibly the greatest work of art of all time.

6. Fav film of 1934- The Thin Man.

7. Fav movie theater- Silent movie theater in LA.

8. Jean Arthur or Irene Dunne- Arthur, mainly b/c of Shane.

9. Fav film for children- DB was right. This is the animated Jungle Book by a landslide. Shere Khan is probably the coolest character ever.

10. Fav Martin Scorsese movie- The Color of Money. Hey, the question isn't " best Scorsese movie"...

11. Fav film about children- Jungle Book was about Mowgli, wasn't it?

12. Fav film of 1954- Sabrina. Humphrey, Holden, and Hepburn...how can you beat that?

13. Screenplay by a famous writer- The Big Sleep.

14. Matthau or Lemmon- Lemmon in a landslide. Loved him as Shelley Levene.

15. Fav character name- Hector Savage from Naked Gun 2 1/2. Ex-boxer from Detroit. Real name was Joey Chicago....

16. Screenplay from great literature- Da Vinci Code. Seriously though, I think I might go with Lonesome Dove here, although some might not consider McMurtry great literature. All I know is that Robert Duvall would agree with me, and that's all that matters.

17. Fav film of 1974- Godfather II was the best film of 1974, but my favorite is Young Frankenstein.

18. Severance or Tweed- Tweed by default. Gotta go with Shannon Whirry in the other proposed question, though.

19. Jackass- Dear God no.

20. Fav John Cassavetes movie- The Dirty Dozen.

21. First R-rated movie- Not sure. Under Siege is in there somewhere, though.

22. X Rated film- The Wild Bunch.

23. Best film of 1994- Damn survey is trying to trick me, asking for my favorite films and then changing the question on me. The best film of 1994 was Forrest Gump; it has the award to prove it. Of course, it's also damn near unwatchable, so I'll list my favorite film as well: Quiz Show.

24. Moment that made me weep- The end of Big Fishgets to me a little every time, prolly because Albert Finney kinda reminds of me of my dad in that role.

25. Battle of the Ewans- McGregor.

26. Fav Line Readings- Anything by Bill Paxton in Aliens.

27. What prejudices me against films: "Starring Nicolas Cage." Also "Directed by Michael Bay."

28. Fav Terry Gilliam movie- Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

29. Jean Smart or Annie Potts- Don't make me choose between my Designing Women.

30. Love/movies question- I don't think it's possible to know whether you'd like someone based solely on their movie taste, but I think you could know whether you'd dislike them based on their movie taste. Deal breakers? I don't think I could like anyone who hated Paul Newman or Cary Grant.

Default Re: Professor Julius Kelp\'s Endless Summer Chemistry Test

Good thing I have two monitors, so I can pull up a list of 1934 movies when needed.

I don't have nearly the passion for movies that you guys seem to, but some of these questions look like fun, and I want to play:

1) Does film best tell the truth (Godard) or tell lies (De Palma) at 24 frames per second?

Dumb question. Truth is always better than lies.

2) Ideal pairing of actors/actresses to play on-screen siblings

Mary-Kate and Ashley.

3) Favorite special effects moment

Hubcap on a wire, Plan 9 from Outer Space

4) Matt Damon or George Clooney?

Clooney does cooler stuff, so he gets the nod. If Matty would do something besides "Oceans" or "Bourne", we'll re-examine the issue.

5) What is the movie you’ve encouraged more people to see than any other?

"Reservoir Dogs". I saw it in the theater, long before "Pulp Fiction" made the world sit up and take notice of QT. I ran around like Paul Revere, telling everybody about the movie I saw that was unlike anything I had ever seen.

6) Favorite film of 1934

Judging strictly by this list, if you asked me, "Which of these would like to watch tonight?", I'd have to go with "Punch Drunks", the Three Stooges short where Curly is a boxer who only does well when he hears "Pop Goes the Weasel".

7) Your favorite movie theater*

If it has stadium seating, and plays the volume loud enough to drown out the inconsiderate slobs sitting nearby, it's good enough for me.

8) Jean Arthur or Irene Dunne?

I've heard of Dunne, so I'll go with her.

9) Favorite film made for children

The Princess Bride. Honorable mention to the Gene Wilder version of "Willie Wonka".

Wait a minute--strike that. Reverse it.

(I apologize for switching between italics and quotation marks. It must be terribly annoying.)

10) Favorite Martin Scorsese Movie

"Goodfellas".

11) Favorite film about children

The only ones I can think of are "Annie", "Oliver Twist", and "Lord of the Flies". I didn't see any of them.

12) Favorite film of 1954

"The Caine Mutiny", I guess. I'm no film buff, but that list really doesn't excite me. Everyone likes "The Seven Samurai", so I'll have to find that one some day.

13) Favorite screenplay written by a writer more famous for literature than screenplays

Way too high-brow a question for me.

14) Walter Matthau or Jack Lemmon?

We all love Walter, but he's overmatched here.

15) Favorite character name

Mr Pink. Honorable mention to Tony Rocky Horror, the most memorable character to never appear onscreen since Charlie from "Charlie's Angels".

16) Favorite screenplay adapted from a work of great literature, either by the author himself or by someone else

Um, didn't we just do this three questions ago?

17) Favorite film of 1974

OMG, now we're talking! In my mind, the nominees (alphabetically) are: Blazing Saddles, Chinatown, Death Wish, The Gambler, GF2, Longest Yard, Lords of Flatbush, The Taking of Pelham 123, and Young Frankenstein.

I'm going with Blazing Saddles, though Wiki makes it clear to me that I have just GOT to watch The Conversation.

(Now he's not using italics nor quotes! He's killing me!)

18) Joan Severance or Shannon Tweed?

Who? Again, I've heard of Tweed, so she wins.

19) jackass: the movie-- yes or no?

Yes, grudgingly.

20) Favorite John Cassavetes Movie

Another film buffs question. I'll go with the newb answer: Dirty Dozen.

21) First R-rated movie you ever saw

I don't know, but it was on HBO, and I was somewhere between the ages of 13-16.

22) Favorite X-rated film (remember that, while your answer may well be a famous or not-so-famous hard-core film, the "X" rating was once also a legitimate rating that did not necessarily connote pornography)

"Blame it on Ginger". Ginger Lynn can bring it.

23) Best film of 1994

Thought I'd say Pulp Fiction, didn't you? Nope. Gotta go with Gump. Quiz Show and Shawshank also rank above Pulp, imo. And I'm the only person I know who liked Cobb.

24) Describe a moment in a movie that made you weep

I cried like a baby when Mel Gibson's son got killed in "The Patriot". But that was because I was out of the country, away from my own kids for months, for the first time.

"NYPD Blue" has moved me to tears a few times. Especially when Andy came walking down the stairs, holding hands with Dominic Bucci's little girl. In fact, it's getting a little dusty in here right now, as I think of it.

25) Ewan McGregor or Ewan Bremner?

Who? And who?

26) One of your favorite line readings (not necessarily one of your favorite lines) from this or any year

I'm guessing this question is more about the line's delivery than the line itself. Gotta go with one of Gene Kelly's wisecracks in "Inherit the Wind". How about this one:

Dick York is on trial. Spencer Tracy is his lawyer. Gene Kelly is a reporter who sets himself apart as an observer, so he can make pithy comments about the entire spectacle.

The prosecution calls York's fiancee to the stand, to testify against him. The defense wasn't ready for this stunning development. York rises from his chair as his fiancee takes the stand, but he's powerless to stop her.

Kelly puts a hand on York's shoulder, and cracks, "Sit down, Samson, you're about to get a haircut."

27) What, if any, element in a film, upon your hearing of its inclusion beforehand, would most likely prejudice you against seeing that film or keeping an open mind about it?

Fantasy stuff, like Lord of the Rings. I just can't get my mind to buy into it.

28) Favorite Terry Gilliam Movie

Deal me out of this one. Not my cup of tea. See my "fantasy" comments above.

29) Jean Smart or Annie Potts?

Annie Potts looks like a dirty little girl, to me.

30) Is it possible to know with any certainty if you could like or love someone based on their taste in movies? If so, what film might be a potential relationship deal-breaker for you, or the one that might just seal that deal?

I don't give a damn what movies my wife likes or dislikes.

(Man, did I just spend about two hours on this???)

1) Does film best tell the truth (Godard) or tell lies (De Palma) at 24 frames per second?

Lies that tell the truth.

2) Ideal pairing of actors/actresses to play on-screen siblings

Eric Roberts and Mickey Rourke

3) Favorite special effects moment

T-Rex attacking car in Jurassic Park

4) Matt Damon or George Clooney?

I like 'em both, but I'd have to say Damon is more interesting as an actor.

5) What is the movie you’ve encouraged more people to see than any other?

Blade Runner. There's so much going on in that film, it's an embarrassment of riches.

6) Favorite film of 1934

The Lost Patrol - an early John Ford clasic. British troops in Africa during WWI are besieged by an unknown Arab sniper until only one is left! Great stuff.

7) Your favorite movie theater

The Silent Movie Theater on Fairfax in Los Angeles. They only play silent films with live musical accompaniment. Great fun. I miss it.

8) Jean Arthur or Irene Dunne?

Jean Arthur. She had a bit of bad girl in her that Dunn never did.

9) Favorite film made for children

The Neverending Story. The video arcade is down the street. Here we just sell small rectangular objects. They're called books. They require a little effort on your part, and make no bee-bee-bee-bee-beeps. Also, The original Willy Wonka.

10) Favorite Martin Scorsese Movie

Mean Streets

11) Favorite film about children

Stand by Me; Au Revoir, les Enfants

12) Favorite film of 1954

On the Waterfront with Rear Window very close behind.

13) Favorite screenplay written by a writer more famous for literature than screenplays

Double Indemnity by Raymond Chandler (and Billy Wilder)

14) Walter Matthau or Jack Lemmon?

Lemmon's probably my favorite actor of all-time, so naturally I've got to go with him.

15) Favorite character name

Indiana Jones. Great name.

16) Favorite screenplay adapted from a work of great literature, either by the author himself or by someone else

The Man Who Would Be King, John Huston adapts Rudyard Kipling

17) Favorite film of 1974

Young Frankenstein, The Conversation, Godfather II, The Taking of Pelham 1,2,3...can't choose.

18) Joan Severance or Shannon Tweed?

I never did understand the big deal over Severance, so I'll have to say Tweed.

19) jackass: the movie-- yes or no?

Yes. Most definitely.

20) Favorite John Cassavetes Movie

Gotta go with A Woman Under the Influence

21) First R-rated movie you ever saw

Midnight Express, with my Dad.

22) Favorite X-rated film (remember that, while your answer may well be a famous or not-so-famous hard-core film, the "X" rating was once also a legitimate rating that did not necessarily connote pornography)

Midnight Cowboy...but since I know that's not in the spirit of the question...New Wave Hookers

23) Best film of 1994

Trois couleurs: Rouge

24) Describe a moment in a movie that made you weep

When Rudy gets accepted into Notre Dame, finally, after all his hard work.

25) Ewan McGregor or Ewan Bremner?

I'll be different and go with Bremer...he's always great in small roles...I especially liked him in Snatch and Black Hawk Down.

26) One of your favorite line readings (not necessarily one of your favorite lines) from this or any year.

"like tears in rain" monologue by Rutger Hauer in Blade Runner.

27) What, if any, element in a film, upon your hearing of its inclusion beforehand, would most likely prejudice you against seeing that film or keeping an open mind about it?

If Michael Bay, Eli Roth or Brett Ratner weas the director of the film.

28) Favorite Terry Gilliam Movie

Gotta be Time Bandits!

29) Jean Smart or Annie Potts?

As someone else said, Annie Potts looks like a dirty little girl, to me. Sexy, sexy woman.

30) Is it possible to know with any certainty if you could like or love someone based on their taste in movies? If so, what film might be a potential relationship deal-breaker for you, or the one that might just seal that deal?

Yes, defintely. If someone loves or even knows of any Krystof Kieslowski films, I could definitely fall in love with her. Deal breaker? If her favorite movie is something like Raising Helen

Oh man, I just realized who Ewan Bremner is, thanks to Dom's post. I love that guy. He's awesome as a twitchy Scot looking for his girlfriend in "Naked."

Great minds think alike. By which I mean, stop copying me, Dom. I know you wish you could have lived a life like mine, but just let it go, man.

Here's a few of the more interesting questions:

1) Favorite quote from a filmmaker

2) A good movie from a bad director

3) Favorite Laurence Olivier performance

4) Describe a famous location from a movie that you have visited (Bodega Bay, California, where the action in The Birds took place, for example). Was it anything like the way it was in the film? Why or why not?

8) Fast Times at Ridgemont High or Dazed and Confused?

9) What was the last movie you saw, and why? (We’ve used this one before, but your answer is presumably always going to be different, so…)

10) Whether or not you have actually procreated or not, is there a movie you can think of that seriously affected the way you think about having kids of your own?

11) Favorite Katharine Hepburn performance

12) A bad movie from a good director

17) Favorite cameo appearance

19) What movie, either currently available on DVD or not, has never received the splashy collector’s edition treatment you think it deserves? What would such an edition include?

20) Name a performance that everyone needs to be reminded of, for whatever reason

22) Favorite John Wayne performance

24) Your Ray Harryhausen movie of choice

25) Is there a movie you can think of that you feel like the world would be better off without, one that should have never been made?

26) If you had the choice of seeing three final movies, to go with your three last meals, before shuffling off this mortal coil, what would they be?

I only have time to answer '25) Is there a movie you can think of that you feel like the world would be better off without, one that should have never been made?'

HIGHLANDER 2!!!!!!!!!!
