It's basically Turin/Torino now. Mumbai sounds like the name of bin Laden's daughter. Using Bombay in American publications is clearly better.

Is Torino really commonly used? Did this just become fashionable after the Winter olympics? I'm sure no American journalist would write Roma or Firenze or Muenchen or Kobenhavn. I think Turin is sensible and normal.

But Mumbai is clearly better for the Indian city. It is the official name in English, which is one of the country's main official languages.
