I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention, it won't happen again.

Seriously, cops who pull you over for speeding just want their little moment of power. Give it to them and you have a chance to avoid paying $50 or whatever. No excuse or other method will work.

$50? Where do you live, South Dakota?

I'm with MatthewRyan, you pull over long before they get on your tail, have your license and reg already for them, Treat them like the KING for the next 4 min, "Yes Sir" and "sorry sir" and the whole bit. If it isn't a huge violation, you should get off. Being a {Censored} will not get you off, and could land you a seat belt or window tint or broken windsheild ticket too.

Well, the cop I was engaged to who LOVED writing tickets and who was killed trying to pull over an [censored] who was going 3 times the speed limit (guy ran over him, dragged him 50 feet down the street and sped off, running a red light) told me that cops make up their mind before they leave the car if they are going to scratch or not. However, it is wise to be super polite and make it clear that you do not have a gun and are not intending any violent behavior. Traffic stops are just about the most dangerous things cops do because they have no idea what they are going to encounter in a particular car.

The worst thing you can do is ask what you did wrong. Automatic ticket because you're insulting his intelligence. I've gotten out of a few or just with a warning by saying "I was going too fast, wasn't I officer".

This thread reminds me of a classic moment from high school.

Every year, a hypnotist comes in and the graduating class are his victims. It didn't work on me, so I sat back in the crowd. One of the scenarios he 'created' was that they just got pulled over for speeding and had to come up with the best excuse they could. Most were pretty dull, until noted class clown simply said "I'm late for my sex change."

"Sorry, officer, but my girlfriend just called me and told me she's all alone at home, naked and horny. I was just on my way over there, and I guess I was in a hurry."

OR:

"Yes, sir."
"Sorry, sir."
"Won't happen again, sir."
"Is there any way I can persuade you not to ticket me today, sir?"
"Thank you, sir."

The second one has actually worked for me 5 different times (about 50% of the time I've been stopped).

These tips are all about 2 hours too late, as I just received a ticket this afternoon.

I tried going the polite route, but the female cop wasn't having it. Apparently, in virginia, traffic tickets make up a large portion of their salary.

(Overall, I'm something like 4/20 for being ticketed vs. pulled over)

This one was tough, as it was in broad daylight and I blew right by her.........ugh...........

Anyone know if Virginia offers a safety class to keep points off my license? Or if they offer abeyment?

Step 1 to getting out of a ticket : be a hot chick
Step 2 : either flirt or cry

I've got a ton of tickets, but I've had tons of girlfriends who are constantly doing awful things in the car and never get tickets (after being pulled over).

You just have to admit defeat, if they ask you why you were speeding tell the cop you don't have any excuse. Your at his mercy so just be polite and make him feel like he is god for the 5-10 mins or so.
