Re: I was once a child genius, but now I\'m only above average.
I mentioned in the other genius thread that I was once tested w/ a high IQ and am convinced now that I'm basically retarded.
IQ is just the measure of how well you learn and retain knowledge I thought. Not necessarily how smart you are or what you know. (Correct me if I'm wrong) Also, the brain is a muscle, if you don’t use it, it atrophies...so to speak. I stopped paying attention in school, stopped doing work and did a [censored] load of drugs. I think I used to be a lot smarter. However, I would assume that if I got back into the swing of things and applied myself I would probably do quite well. |

Re: I was once a child genius, but now I\'m only above average.
Tennenbaum : I believe the standard definition disagrees with you there. As far as I know, IQ is a measure of your intelligence (often as a ratio to the persons age). That being said, it is generally accepted that almost all IQ tests suck as a method of measuring someones intelligence, and are much better at measuring how well people do IQ tests.

[/ QUOTE ] so you're saying that all (or most) child geniuses/prodigies/whatever just didn't exercise their gifts? for some reason it seems more likely that brain development just takes place at different times for some people. but I really don't know, hence the thread. |

Apparently everyone in OOT is a genius, it's really remarkable.

Re: I was once a child genius, but now I\'m only above average.
I took the SAT in 6th grade and scored above 600 in math. I ended up taking math classes at the local junior college the next few years and was done with multivariate calc by my Junior year of high school.
I know play a silly game online for a living. I believe I have gone backwards quite a bit. |
