Other Uses for Amaretto

I'm not sure why I forgot this earlier...fresh-squeezed lime and orange juice make a sour-mix that works very well with amaretto. I've had those three together as an amaretto sour that was topped with cracked black pepper, which worked surprisingly well fwiw.

I have never tasted it and never will. In a previous lifetime, a company I worked for was hosting a hospitality suite at a major industry convention, requiring my presence for the evening. A fat and sweaty free-loading journalist parked his wide body at the bar and proceded to drink the better part of a bottle, on the rocks. Talk about aversion therapy.

Recently we have been using SoCo 100 proof and just lighting that instead of using the amaertetto and 151 and the results are the same.

It may be that I used beam as my base, and I generally dislike beam pretty avidly. More likely, I think amoretto is just too sweet.

I took your advice on the Amaretto Sour this past weekend. I was making drinks for folks, and a guy w/ very girly tastes who was crashing on my couch for the weekend wanted something w/ amaretto. Not stocking neon yellow sour mix, and not wanting to serve plonk, I got creative. I went with amaretto on the rocks w/ just lemon and lime juices, ala American Bar, but tossed in a little OJ and soda water for good measure to go with it. I think this guy would have found the drink too strong otherwise. It turned out really good. It was still sweet, but it wasn't a syrupy, artificial sugar bomb.
