If people wanted to walk up stairs they'd use the stairs. People like to use escalators because they can still move UP without having to do anything but step on and step off.
Did you really not consider this before creating this thread?

If you want to stand on the escalator, I don't really give a [censored]. However, I HATE it when people do this and don't stand to one side so others can get past them. People were usually pretty good about this in DC (except tourists,) but they really suck at it here in California.
BTW, this is the only rational reason for caring about others escalator riding habits imo.

People standing on escalators is OK. What's not OK is standing on the left half of the escalator. So, so annoying.
