Could you please explain you logic behind saying calling is close preflop?

[/ QUOTE ]

JJ doesnt have a huge equity edge in an 8 handed pot. Sklansky mentions this exact situation in HPFAP(I cant find the page number)

Basically you are hoping to flop a set.

The more appropriate reference for this hand would be the "Two Overpair Hands" section in SSHE.

As for me, I can't think of a circumstance where I would call in the cut-off with pocket jacks.

Do you have the jack of diamonds? I can't see folding here is you do, and I really can't see folding if you don't, but I'm willing to listen to the latter case.

you don't need huge equity. you need better than 12.5% equity.

"JJ doesnt have a huge equity edge in an 8 handed pot"

O RLY?

This forum should really be split into live and online, not high and medium stakes.

If you have JcJh against AsTs and QdKd and Tc9c and the flop is 8d6d5s the odds are:
AsTs: 11.71%, Tie 0.61%
KdQd: 52.80%
JcJh: 25.00%
Tc9c: 9.88%, Tie 0.61%

But if you get them all to fold except for the QdKd you have 44.04% chance to win and 1.82% chance on a tie. So that is good a reason to keep raiseing. (except for the fact that you are giving the others pot-odds, but they don't have pot-odds and they should fold)
