Re: what changed the way u think about thngs most? not poker related
One great history-type book that comes to my mind is "With the Old Breed" by E.B. Sledge (it's about his experience in WWII.) Another is "Running a Thousand Miles For Freedom" by William and Ellen Craft (two slaves detailing their escape to the North.) I'm sure that there are a bunch more that I could name that I just can't think of right now.

Some great history stuff can be found in...
Guns, Germs and Steel - Jared Diamond And something that will change your view on the world... Ishmael - Daniel Quinn (www.ishmael.org) and a real DEEP philosophy book which I enjoyed, but may be too tedious a read for some... The Origin of Consciousness and the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind - Julian Jaynes -scarr |

Try Jared Diamond - Guns Germs and Steel - it explains quite simply how geography, climate and the distribution of domesticable animals and potential crop plants influenced the development of civilisation.
Fantastic stuff and quite accessible |

I recommend "Tuesdays with Morrie: An Old Man, a Young Man, and Life's Greatest Lesson" by Mitch Albom. It can be a bit depressing and hard to read at times, especially if you have ever had a close relative pass away, but it is also a good reminder of stuff you shouldn't forget about. Check it out at Amazon and see if it sounds worth a couple of hours of your time.

I found "Tuesdays with Morrie" to be trite and pedantic. Though, I do admire the dying man and am happy for the author who hopefully betnifited more from the wisdom than the books immense profits.

what changed the way u think about thngs most? not poker related [/ QUOTE ] Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Cured myself too by reading a self help book, for which I'm eternally greatful ! Personal suffering gives you true empathy for others. Life experience gives you insight if you're listening/looking carefully for it. There are no shortcuts for that. If you want to broaden your outlook don't limit what you read to a few esoteric subjects. Read about anything and everything, thats the way to gain the most. Knowing a little bit about everything is far better than being an expert in one or two areas. Heres a few good books: Best biography I've read is Brando by Peter Manso. First chapters boring but after that it's unputdownable Supernature by Lyall Watson. Hard to describe but an amazing book. Takes supposedly supernatural phenomena and demonstrates that they are far from 'supernatural' using scientific and rational argument and examples from the whole spectrum of nature/physics. Liars Poker (high finance & corruption) by Michael Lewis. The Universe Next Door by Marcus Chown (Physics). The Best Democracy Money Can Buy by Greg Palast. Globalization, politics, fraud, corruption etc. The Sourcebook of Magic by L. Michael Hall. NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) change patterns for developing your minds potential. Really the only 'self help' book you'll ever need as most of the current self help books all use aspects of NLP. So go to the source ! Not just a self help book by the way, this book gives many many patterns specifically geared towards achieving goals/developing potential. Good luck in your quest |
