Re: Quantifying your reads
djoyce003,
The two most important reads for me are: 1) Checking does / doesn't induce bluff. I want to know what villain will likely do when I check the river after 2 barrels... or check the turn. I've found this read to be pretty reliable even after several encounters. For example, I make bank, if I can count on villain to do this: Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (5 handed) internettexasholdem.com saw flop|saw showdown UTG ($71.35) keikiwai ($48.50) Button ($49) SB ($50.05) BB ($19) Preflop: keikiwai is MP with 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $0.25. 1 fold, keikiwai raises to $2, Button calls $2, 2 folds. Flop: ($4.75) 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players) keikiwai bets $4, Button calls $4. Turn: ($12.75) A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) keikiwai bets $10, Button calls $10. River: ($32.75) 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players) keikiwai checks, Button calls $33 (All-In), keikiwai calls $32.50 (All-In). Final Pot: $98.25 Main Pot: $97.75, between keikiwai and Button. > Pot won by keikiwai ($97.75). Pot 2: $0.50, returned to Button. Results in white below: keikiwai has 2d Ad (two pair, aces and sevens). Button has 4s Ks (one pair, sevens). Outcome: keikiwai wins $97.75. Button wins $0.50. 2) Minbet / smallbet folds. Many villains will minbet w/ IDK what, and when you go over the top they fold. I've found this read to be very profitable when I note it. There's of course the ones who bet call, and the few that use the minbet rr AI trap, so it's important to make notes. |

1) Checking does / doesn't induce bluff. [/ QUOTE ] I'll have to start writing the induce bluff note now too. I already love the note; "menbet / smallbet = FTR" (fold to raise). |

Re: Quantifying your reads
Great post dj.
FH, I tend to think that this forum gets a little lazy when calling all ins. Citing decent odds and nothing more as an easy call is lazy thinking because of course the guy who wants to get called will give you decent odds. We really need to cite reads more often w/ hands containing all ins. |

Re: Quantifying your reads
dj good post but you have hijacked somewhat in your excitement.
Fallen, I think in order to quantify your reads you need to practice. Currently you (and most here) think ahh I might be good here a reasonable amount of the time, and call. Reads are a combination of memory, recenly played hands, table conditions, your mood etc and are not going to come out as required pot odds unless you practice converting the feeling into either weighted hand ranges or adjusted pot odds or whatever. Maybe you can start assigning numbers. They will probably suck at first, but hopefully your brain will get better at it. Or this could be random crap. |
