wh1t3bread,

Do you honestly believe that Sanchez will be just as good coming out of the pen in the 7th & 8th innings as he has been so far?

I'm hoping so but probably not.

Anyway my contention is that Seo and Sanchez are two completely different types of pitchers. Seo relies on placement. Sanchez relies more on power, strikeout's and inducing double plays (Sanchez has induced more DP's than any other reliever so far this year).

I'd much rather have a Sanchez type coming out of the pen late in the ballgame than a Seo type. Thats all I'm trying to say.

When is Bannister coming back? Him and Tracschel make a reasonable 3-4. I also don't agree with Heilman in the bullpen; you want your best pitchers to throw a lot of innings, and not the other way around, and Heilman can handle starting unlike some other good relievers.

El Duque isn't having a good year, but he has generally pitched at an average to above average level in the big leagues when healthy (i.e. way better than Jose Lima). His strike out rate is really high, which means he still has good stuff. His ERA is high mostly due to hit luck, which tends to even out in the long run; his k/bb is 52/20, very good. He should be fine until he gets hurt. Julio has been bad for a long time now; outstanding trade for the mets to partially compensate for the bad Benson deal.

Soler looked really good in his first start in the majors. From what I've read, Soler is close to Hernandez, so that's another angle you have to look at. I think Hernandez can help with Soler's development.

Julio is the poor man's Armando Benitez. I like this trade.

I like this trade as long as El Duque keeps his ERA below 5.

He's rediculous in the playoffs.

Um, it's May. I'm as big a Mets fan as anyone, but let's not get ahead of ourselves here. We are going to need Trachsel, El Duque, Soler/Bannister/Whoever to step up and pitch well.

Anyway, I [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Jose Reyes.

I also like the way Cliff is swinging the bat right now:

11 hits in his last 34 AB's. 4 Doubles, 1 Triple, 2 Homers.

I know it's early. I'm a Braves fan so I'm in no way rooting for the Mets but I'm just pointing out a fact, he's one of the best postseason pitchers ever. 9-3, 2.33 era in 14 games started. He wasn't that great last year during the regular season but was very solid in the playoffs last year reliefing.

Most of his post-season stats, though, came when he had more stuff than he's trotting out there now. Still, perhaps he'll pitch better with the change of scenery.

He was pretty effective in the playoffs last year although Houston didn't give much of a fight. 4 IP, 0 ER. But back in the day, he was very good. I know he's nowhere near as effective now but he probally still has a lot of confidence from his performances of the past atleast playoff wise.
