yep, Dissociation:

The disconnection from full awareness of self, time, and/or external circumstances. It is a complex neuropsychological process. Dissociation exists along a continuum from normal everyday experiences to disorders that interfere with everyday functioning.

The more I think about it, the more I agree with this. Detachment allows me to play the game as a game and use that view to figure out how best to play in each situation.

Kind of like playing a sport when you have a cold. You just play the game and on't think about all of the other crap that could be there clogging your brain.
