This show is great and I really wouldn't describe it as a reality show. It's just a documentary series about this highly dangerous job.

Definately one of my favorite shows. I've been hooked since the first episode.

I spent a summer in Alaska and lived with a friend who had spent a few summers fishing King Salmon. The stories he has are unreal...people will be out at sea for around a month at a time. Depending on how market and their luck is, they'll make between 1K and 15K just as a regular fisherman, not the captain. A lot of the bars in Homer (the town I was in) have bells where fisherman will come back from their trip, and flush with cash, ring the bell, signalling that they're paying for everyone's drinks that night. My friend didn't know anyone personally that died, but was on a boat when someone broke their leg two weeks into the trip, and rather than going back to a hospital, they set it and kept fishing since the six person crew was making about 5k/day at the point. I've heard stories about people getting rescued by the Coast Guard, and essentially, that show is the truth.

I can't remember the exact numbers, but on season one of the series, didn't the boat that made the most money make 500k for the captain/owner, and each of the crew made 25k? All of that for what, five days?

The King Crab boats are normally out to sea for close to a month, so those guys do earn their money. |

As I recall, the season was like three months and they made around $150k. |

This was on while I was surfing the net one day and now I'm hooked. It's just amazing the conditions these guys work in. No wonder crab legs are so expensive. [/ QUOTE ] [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] this show. My fiancee and I are, er, hooked. |
