[ QUOTE ]
keep playing the same levels, hit a bad streak, and then lose the rest trying to recoup your losses playing higher. [/ QUOTE ] This specificly is what I am talking about. Playing higher to recoup losses is very very bad. If the story went: Made withdraw for emergency. Continued at level underrolled, lost half the roll and dropped down a level. Played level under rolled, but did not drop down since I can make more at a real job than playing at a lower level and lost the rest of the roll. That would be fine. Withdraw, continue, run bad, move up is not fine and something that really needs to be addressed. It is a very common and serious manifestation of tilt that can a person a lot if and when they graduate to higher limits. |

I still feel sick about not just dropping down for a little while. |

At any rate my advice would be to grind it out at the lowest level that makes at least as much as you view your time is worth, and reload as needed.

[/ QUOTE ] I'm wondering if I should just deposit 150BB in a couple of weeks and play at my normal 2/4, knowing the that I'll have 75 more BB the next week, and then 75 more (or 300 total) the week after. |

[/ QUOTE ] That's perfectly reasonable. Your bankroll is not your balance. If you can add more money later, your bankroll is larger than your balance. If you have to withdraw a fixed amount later, your bankroll is smaller now. A 300 BB balance is not a magical protection from going broke. Bankroll management is slightly more complicated than that. 300 BB is not enough if your win rate is low or you keep withdrawing down to 300 BB. 300 BB is too conservative if you can easily add money. |

[ QUOTE ]
Get the real job...and keep it. Despite making good money from poker recently, I still make a good deal from a productive job. It is nice to have both fixed and variable income. Even my real job has both fixed and variable income. BTW, you are unlikely to make a comfortable living playing 2/4. Even at a rate of 3BB/hr you have a crappy income (sorry to break the news). [/ QUOTE ] Considering most of us are online players around here, your BB/hr judgement is meaningless. Take 2 bb/100, and average 400 hands per hour. $32 is horrible? Get over yourself. |

400 hands per hour? maybe if you play against fast robots.

To the OP, why don't you work your job and play poker on the side so that you don't have to withdraw for awhile. Move up in limits until you can comfortably cut down your hours at the real job. For instance, 3BB/hr isn't bad if you're playing 3/6 or 4/8. |

Let's say you're used to playing 2/4 comfortably with about $1,200. You withdraw half for an emergency, keep playing the same levels, hit a bad streak, and then lose the rest trying to recoup your losses playing higher. Assuming you don't plan to make these bankroll mistakes again, and wish to get back to your 2/4 limit, do you deposit $200 and try to microgrind until you get back up, or just work some more hours at a real job until you have the bankroll? [/ QUOTE ] Both Regards, Carl |
