Re: No Limit Hold \'em: Theory and Practice Cover
[ QUOTE ]
But it's all subjective taste. What do you guys think is the best poker book cover at the market? [/ QUOTE ] It's funny, isn't it. I initially hated the standard 2+2 guns and cards covers, but now, because I associate the covers with the content, I associate that tacky 1950's western style with quality. From a pure design point of view though, I'd probably have to go with Phil Gordon's Little Green Book. And as for worst design ever: Pot Limit & No Limit Poker by Reuben and Ciaffone. |

Re: No Limit Hold \'em: Theory and Practice Cover
I don't know... I hate those cards on LGB, that lining is ugly and the red on back cover doesn't fit. The font is ok. But I love the hard cover. Would be better with glued cover instead of separate paper, though.

Re: No Limit Hold \'em: Theory and Practice Cover
I can't remember any really great cover in poker books, but the best I have is probably Inside The Poker Mind. If only the drawing wasn't so naive.
Easy way to make NLHTAPC much better: change the colour to blue, and make it shift slowly from darker at the bottom to lighter at the top. And change the font. Maybe it's not too late. |

Looks great...
However, won't the guys from "Queer Eye" be mad about your picture, Ed? |

In the immortal words of Simon Cowell, "Absolutely dreadful".
Good thing we were all taught not to judge a book by it's cover. |

Re: No Limit Hold \'em: Theory and Practice Cover
[ QUOTE ]
I think your back cover is suffering from a bad case of grocers apostrophe . Surely it's 'hows and whys', not 'how's and why's'? [/ QUOTE ] This jumped out at me too, although I'm not sure it's grocer's apostrophe. Some American style manuals recommend (or at least permit) using an apostrophe to avoid confusion when forming unusual plurals, e.g., "Mind your p's and q's." Maybe whoever wrote the jacket copy didn't want people standing in the poker section at Barnes and Noble going "'Haus and whiss?' What the hell are 'Haus and whiss?'" |

Some American style manuals recommend (or at least permit) using an apostrophe to avoid confusion when forming unusual plurals, e.g., "Mind your p's and q's." [/ QUOTE ] According to the Purdue Online Writing Lab The apostrophe has three uses: 1) to form possessives of nouns 2) to show the omission of letters 3) to indicate certain plurals of lowercase letters. p's and q's would fall into the latter category. It seems that it's unnecessary in the case of Ps and Qs. But then you Americans do all manner of peculiar things to the English language, so who knows? |
