Regulars kill downswings like Drain-O kills clogs.

[/ QUOTE ]

Slowly?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yea, but it always gets the job done in the end.

[/ QUOTE ]

I hear you.

I actually slowed/killed a downswing doing this last week. I have become so used to playing the speeds that I hated the slow pace of the regulars and switched back after a dozen or so of them.

[/ QUOTE ]

lol, there is always some donkey on the bubble when I play the regs (usually 200/400 blinds) pushing 16 bbs around left and right - I always assume he had a downswing at the speeds (or maybe joined by accident)... (wtf, 4 people left and the blinds are so small, what do i do!)

Even though this has been posted 2234890235 times before,
the speeds have a variance that is the same as the regulars.
Please stop posting otherwise.
Your earn is lower and they feel like a crapshoot when there are 8 people left with blinds at 200/400, so you feel like the swings are greater, but the variance (or its square root, the standard deviation) are the same.
Also, all pros should play the speeds, the regulars are for fish.

And you don't want to be where all the fish are?

Used to play the regulars, my ROI was indeed higher, but not quite enough higher to justify returning after I moved to the speeds. But the difference isn't huge for a skilled player (i.e., someone who isn't just a pure pushbot).

If your ROI at regulars is higher, the variance is indeed lower.

I figure to have a greater advantage in the regulars due to the fact i have the time to pick up more premium hands before bubble.(= get payed off and have a bigger stack in the end)

Also i prefer the 11$ regulars at stars cuz when stealing blinds in the end you get away with it like 80% of the time. Everyone is stealing on button and folding to a reraise and everyone is folding to a button raise if in SB or BB.

In the turbos i never get away with anything so i always make sure i have the better hand and i still think the roi (about 26%) is to low compared to how i always have the best hand.

Regulars are way softer..

Than it was probably me. I had to check myself a couple of times. It becomes a habit when you're down to 4 or 5 and I'm not used to being on the bubble with blinds of 100/200.

If you examine your game (which I did) and decide that your style does not work well at the Speeds AND you dislike the pace - you should play something else.

I will not return to Speeds because:

1. I do not find the game as intellectually pleasurable
2. I suck at Speeds.

I hope all the pros play the speeds.

I don't plan on making this a regular part of my posts, but this time it actually is fitting:

I play only regulars for two (main) reasons.
1) ROI is currently more important to me than $/hr.
2) I feel that I learn more about poker playing the regulars than I do the speeds.

Can you explain why?
