Next year's WSOP is supposed to be moved back towards the traditional May date in 2007, the problem with 2005 and 2006 was that there were conventions already planned when they acquired the World Series of Poker. Also, ESPN really wants the WSOP moved back to better accomodate their TV schedule. The 2005 WSOP final three tables were only at Binion's last year for the 100th anniversary of Downtown Vegas, which was a condition of Harrah's buying Binion's.

If Jack Binion still owned Binion's, I'm sure the WSOP would still be there.
The $1m display was sold by Becky Behnen Binion several years ago, when she actually had the place. Also, don't dis Binion's, they're trying to webcast live tournaments in the near future (if they haven't done so already).
